Interesting. I've read somewhere that he still holds the record for most fks scored in Serie A. Then again other sources say that Del Piero holds that record, as well as having scored the most fks in CL. Anyone know more about that?
no Del Piero finished on 22, mihajlovic finished on 28 so Pirlo is only a few off (serie A only) not sure about CL, i would imagine juninho would be up there

Beckham was one of the best at free kicks, crosses, etc. Always liked him, not his fault people overhyped the shit outta him.

He was great in dead ball situations and long ball/crosses that's about it.
He had really amazing passing as well, he could hit that diagonal pass perfect every time even when running at close to full speed with a defender chasing him.

He used to have so much work rate down the right hand side constantly closing people down and starting counter attacks. I do think he was over rated but only slightly.

One could say the same about Pirlo, Camoranesi etc. Not very pacey, average physique and a tendency to look nonchalant. Does that make them lesser players?

Disregarding all the media attention, Beckham was actually a very good player with fine technique and vision.

01. Sinisa Mihajlovic 28
02. Andrea Pirlo 25
03. Alessandro Del Piero 22
04. Roberto Baggio 20
05. Gianfranco Zola 20

This is only serie A, though.

Regarding Pirlo, it's worth noting that in less than 3 seasons he scored 10 free kick goals for us in serie A, as much as he scored for Milan in 10 seasons. He scored 0 for Inter, 2 for Brescia and 3 for Reggina.

Beckham's free-kick conversion ratio was pretty garbage. He was one of those who he made his reputation on a few famous free-kicks at key moments, combined with his aesthetic technique and famous image.

One such example is the last minute one against Greece for England to qualify for the World Cup, he'd already missed 5 good free-kick chances before that one and was going to hand the duty over to someone else before he stepped up.

He's in good company, however. Last season Pirlo scored 5 from 37 attempts (13.5% conversion), Ronaldo 4 from 49 attempts (8% conversion). Beckham's career ratio was less than 5%. Of the more high profile takers Pirlo is probably the best around currently.
