Pirlo went into cruise control around few years ago. Happens when you win everything. While Xavi kept on improving as it coincided with Spain/Barcelona's success.

Personally i think Pirlo should've put on some bulk to make him a better player. Anyway, as long as we get CL, the contract will have been worth it.

He wasn't in control of the game in the way he has been of other matches, but he played a few great passes.

To quote Conte, 'He picked up an injury, but grit(ted) his teeth to carry on like a great man.'

I know he plays in a different position at the moment for Lazio, but could Hernanes be a long term Pirlo replacement?
Nah.

I'll take Pirlo over Xavi.

They both have the short passing ability, but I'll take Pirlo's long range passing over Xavi's mobility.

Has anyone else read this:

Cruijff speaks about great players being able to play when they are injured by adjusting their style.

He gives the example of himself playing with a groin strain and only kicking the ball with the outside of his foot due to avoid exacerbating the injury.

Was it my imagination or were the vast majority of Pirlo's longer passes played with his left foot, due to his injured right leg?

That Pepe pass is a high-line killer. If the the forwards time their runs more in synch, it could be destructive next season/CL.

About the only way to beat teams like Barca/Madrid.
