I remember the fact that Marchisio was played out of position at LM was used to discredit him--saying it's because Melo and Aquilani were better CMs. So because Vidal is used everywhere but CM for Chile, he's not a good enough CM for them?

I posted it the other day. I can't remember--Medel and whoever else. So yeah, Vidal has some no name CMs playing in his spot. Using the same logic (Marchisio played LM because Aquilani and Melo were better), Medel and random-Chilean-guy are better.

Just because you can't (or won't) see the difference doesn't mean there isn't one. Try as he might Marchisio could not get a game in the center. Even when Pepe or Martinez started on the left Claudio still didn't get the nod in the middle.
Vidal is being used to cover a variety of positions by the Chilean coach. It's not as if he couldn't waltz into and play the CM spot (as he did today) if he wasn't being used elsewhere.

Aquilani would be the preferred partner for Melo because of the type of player he is (or is supposed to, but failed to be for us) not because he is the better player, imo. And I actually don't think a 2 man-midfield with Pirlo and Marchisio would work, not because of Marchisio, but because of Pirlo who needs a strictly defensive midfield partner. So I don't think the Pirlo-Vidal midfield is ideal either. The 4-3-3 would be dandy, imo.
I don't get it. You seem to agree that Marchisio is not an effective partner for numerous other highly rated CMs so why do you rate him so highly? Because he has good technique? That doesn't mean dick if he is ineffective in his position/ needs to cycle through numerous other players to find a partner so the midfield isn't embarrasingly weak.

Marchisio is not a DM, no. He is a box-to-box CM. What I'm saying is he can play in a 2-man midfield. Of course CM partners should complement each other. You wouldn't play Makelele and Mascherano together in a 4-4-2 nor Scholes and Xavi. England had problems fitting Gerrard and Lampard together so they moved Gerrard out wide and tried all kinds of things.
Marchisio--Vidal could work if we had particularly capable and creative wingers. For Juve, I'd say 4-3-3 with Vidal--Pirlo--Marchisio is the best option.

The truth is that Marchisio is only really that good as a utility player. In a 4-3-3 where he isn't relied on to heavily for either attacking or defending he could be an effective player. The kind of guy who roams the field always open as an extra passing option. He has the technique and close control to link up play well in a big team but I think he is rather limited to this sort of role and would only really shine with more capable CMs on the field to do the work that he doesn't.
Unfortunately for the marchisio lovers this system is not in place at Juventus so he cannot be this support player and hence he struggles to be one of the "main men" in the middle so to speak.
