The problem is that now, on top of him needed to be protected, he is not adding anything to our play, just missplaced passes and losing possesion in delicate situations.
Which is why Nainggolan would have been a great purchase for this season. He is obviously not a Pirlo clone, but he would bring a different dimension that would allow for Vidal, Pogba, and Marchisio to focus more on the attacking side of the pitch, then have to come back as cover for Pirlo.

I think he's gone after this season, and I wouldn't have a problem with it. He served Juve well, but you can't have someone of his limited athleticsm out there anymore when you have gazelles such as Pogba and Vidal out there. They need a midfielder who they know and are confident that the player can cover his own on the defensive front.

Yup.

Any attacking midfielder with acceptable abilities, willing to box to box constantly and do his fair share of tackles, would do.

He doesnt need to be a Vidal or Pogba level dude... just someone who gets the job done and helps the other 2 when on the defensive. And if we can get a WC player, better then.

(Ironically, marchisio fits this bill, and becaus of this i would like to see more of this 3 playing together..... but then we get the "Marchisio ninja mode" thing. Stilll soon enought it will not be a mere experiment for us to try this, but a necessity if Pirlo continues flopping.)

I actually think that Asamoah fits the bill perfectly.

There's still plenty of talk that we'll target Nainggolan in January and Cagliari will let him leave for the right offer.

If that happens I'd like us to say to Pirlo, thanks for the service but it's best to part ways.

In the last two seasons whenever he had the ball I was confident and knew nothing would happen, this year every time he has the ball I expect him to be robbed of possession and he's losing it more and more lately.

Just play him in the big games. Rest this bearded Zimmer frame.

Damn what's wrong with Pirlo right now :(

One of my favorite players of all time I always liked him at Milan and he was the only one from their team I wanted here for many years. Besides his form and attitude/motivation I think he's not so comfortable in 3-5-2 anymore. In 4-3-3 he could play it more forward especially to LWF and RWF. Now he plays it back because most teams man-mark our players. I think our 3-5-2 has been exposed and Pirlo with it.

I'd hate to see him go but in the end no man is bigger than the club. If he's a reason for Conte to play 352 only we probably should let him go. It seems like he needs even more cover than he used to and that's why Conte won't ever play a more offensive formation with Pirlo.

He's been immense for us but Pogba has to step in and that's probably another reason to why he could be gone next summer.

Let's not be too harsh on Pirlo though...

The man is almost 35, plays in the most vital position for the team, is required to run like hell and be active 90 mins every game.

Never got injured in Juventus, played more than 80 games in the last 2 years, plays every single game for Italy... Conte never rotated him before.

He just gets washed up. It's too much for him and it would be for any 35 yr old midfielder who dictates the team's play.

If Conte rotates him properly, letting him play only once a week, he will still be vital to this team.

IM not being harsh, and in fact i have been surprised by him playing this good and that much by his age. I even fear for his health. Conte simply oversuses him, and the NT is also another problem.

I love how a spell of poor form (is his form even poor? Haven't seen the last couple of games) means that you are finished if you are aged 32 or over.

Conte needs to figure out a way to use him economically. Playing him week in week out is just not the best way to go about it. We've got good cover for him and we should be using it. Really, what was the point of him starting that game?

There is some truth to this. pirlo has lost some of his magic, but he can still be a valuable asset to the team.

the positive that i saw over the last two games was that the team coped much better than expected with pirlo's non involvement/heavy marking. 2 seasons ago this sort of marking would have seen juventus struggling to play it's tempo. ogbonna/bonucci do a good job pushing forward and dictating play from deep, making a deep playmaker less of a need

this is encouraging news for a future juve with no pirlo. it makes the alternative of juve playing with a trequerista intead much more likely.

Instead of signing Nainggolan why not buy a proper LB and put Asamoah in his natural position in midfield?
That's the million dollar question.

And to say that for the 'right' offer, Cagialri would sell Nainggolan to us is laughable, especially after this Summer.
