EVERYBODY HAS TO PLAY BY IT, it's not as though it's unfairly used for and against some teams, everyone has to play by it.
I think it's a good rule because in the open field it defines that a player has to maintain control through the catch, so guys that fall out of bounds on the 30 have to have the ball in their chest, not dragging the ball under them while its in their hands.
Just because it's a rule doesn't make it a good rule. I just don't see the efficiency of this rule when the player obviously caught the ball with two feet and an ass in the end zone, clearly having the ball in possession. As someone else said, it should be a different matter in the endzone as the play is dead as soon as possession exists in the endzone. And I think that just like in real football, the benefit of the doubt should be given to the attacker, yet in this case there wasn't any doubt about Calvin bringing the ball down under control. He did it. Everyone, including Bears fans, saw it.
While my rage has to do with the fact the ruling penalized my Lions, my opinion of the rule would be the same if it happened to the Steelers, for instance. I simply find it a stupid rule in my opinion, one which might hurt all the teams in the league. And again, I'm not known around here for bullshitting excuses for my team, ESPECIALLY the Lions.
Even 80% of Bears fans think it's a stupid rule, so it's not just Lions fans complaining.

And here are some articles in support of changing the rule.

You can ask Andy, it had nothing to do with how good they were.
Seriously, ask him.
Burke asked me what the best team in Munich was, this was probably in 2001. I told him Bayern. If I would have told him it was 1860, he would have believed it, but I could totally see him switching to Bayern once he figured out the truth.
