Chievo block duo sale
The wanted duo of Amauri and Franco Semioli will not be sold by Chievo, the Champions League chasing club have confirmed.
The two players have been linked with moves away from Verona, but the outfit insist they will remain after being promoted to the European Cup following the Calciopoli verdicts.
“We are now even more intent on keeping our best players, by that I mean Amauri and Semioli,” stated sporting director Giovanni Sartori.
“We were already hoping to keep key men here after we won a place in the UEFA Cup, now we have an extra motivation to not sell.”
Amauri has been linked to Palermo, Juventus and Roma, while the Italian midfielder has a host of admirers in the peninsula and abroad.
Meanwhile, the Flying Donkeys are confident that they can reach the Champions League proper after being drawn against either Levski Sofia or Georgian side Sionisi in the qualifiers.
“It is a draw within our reach and we’ll have a good go,” added Sartori. “Seeing as we were only in the second tier we could have come up against a European giant, but the draw was kind.”
However, President Luca Campedelli is remaining cautious even if his side are potentially just 180 minutes from playing in Europe’s biggest club competition.
“Although we are not playing against a so-called big, we know that we have a tough task ahead of us,” said the businessman.
“At this level, all European opponents are tough to beat and very well prepared,” he continued.
“Yet this is a great opportunity for us and we’ll give it our all to take advantage of it as best we can. Then we’ll see what happens…”
