Read this article from goal.com it basically says exactly everything i have been saying about the Amauri transfer for the past several months. If Secco swaps
Giovinco, Marchisio, De Ceglie and 15 million for Amauri that will be more of a hit to my love for juventus then Calciopoli! Seriously this is absolutely the worst deal juventus could ever make!
If you are to sit down and assess the good and bad points about Juventus’ season, high up on the list of positives will undoubtedly be their strike-force.
Once again Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet have proved to the best and most consistent partnership in Serie A, hitting a wonderful 30 goals between them. Vincenzo Iaquinta has also impressed when given the chance, hitting eight goals in 23, and often being decisive when coming off the bench. Juve’s fourth attacker, Raffaele Palladino, who will be sold in the summer, has largely struggled, but despite this few can argue about the merits of the Bianconeri attack.
Indeed many would say that it is the best forward line-up in the whole of Serie A. Inter’s foursome of Ibrahimovic, Cruz, Crespo and Suazo would contest this, but in reality the former two of these have struggled terribly in 2008, while the latter pair have, for various reasons, had largely miserable campaigns throughout.
It is quite true that both Del Piero, 33, and Trezeguet, 30, are starting to knock up a few miles on the clock. They are still performing though and regardless of their age, Juventus surely have to put their transfer priorities in place.
Before even considering the signing of another attacker, the Old Lady need to purchase a left back, centre back, and a centre midfielder.
Christian Molinaro is simply not good enough in the left back position, while it is also questionable, despite his surprisingly good form, whether a Scudetto or Champions League challenge is possible with Nicola Legrottaglie at centre half. The lack of creativity in the centre of midfield is a well known problem so there is no need to dig up old dirt there. Even a long-term replacement for Pavel Nedved on the left-hand side of midfield should be more or a priority than Amauri.
Amauri is an excellent player, but he is simply not what Juventus need. Quite where he would fit into the Juventus attack is also up for debate. It is well known that Trezeguet can only prosper next to a skilful support striker, like Del Piero. Amauri is certainly not this type of player.
A 4-3-3 of Amauri, Trezeguet and Del Piero simply cannot work, meaning that only two from these three can play at once. Then of course there is Vincenzo Iaquinta to consider, not to mention the hugely talented Sebastian Giovinco, who, providing Alessio Secco doesn’t succeed in selling him, could be a real trump card.
Where are Iaquinta and Giovinco going to fit in?
With added Champions League football, rotation and squad depth will certainly be important. However there is surely no point having five top quality attackers, if you’re left back, centre back and centre midfielder are inadequate.
