Alves isn't a bad choice, defensively he's athletic but not exactly solid; think Belletti of Barca. There is a lack of reliable rightbacks in Europe anyway, we could do worse. But I'm sceptical as to whether he's capable of making the transition from Spain to Italy, and from a midtable club to a championship team.

I have some problems regarding his defesive play, considering that he has already received 8 yellow cards and 1 red card.

Yes, but I wouldn't want Zambrotta to play in a more conservative role. The only reason why Cicinho was so great at the confederations cup last summer was that Gilberto stayed back at all times.

just three LB
and with the combined retirement of Pesso and Biri absolutely no back up,
we need a right back,
about Alves i dont think so, too many teams want him...
