because he prefers cuadrado to licht, and he's reluctant to field the two "attacking wingbacks" (cuadrado and alex sandro; screw that long name, i'll call him sandy) together.
Alex is quite competent defensively though, I wouldn't call him an attacking fullback, but an all rounded one. If Max instructs him to stay back more, I'm sure he will listen :D. And we still get his attacking runs when needed, and don't need to waste a sub bringing him on when chasing a goal.

Btw, if he's out for Bologna and Evra will start, perhaps Max will opt for Alex for Bayern since Evra would have played a full 90 just four days before.
