Angelo Alessio is confident the Bianconeri will be a match for defending European champions Chelsea when the two sides square up at Juventus Stadium tomorrow night.
But with qualification for the Champions League knockout stages at stake, Alessio is aware of the task facing Juventus as they seek to extend their stay in Europe’s top club competition.
Addressing the media from a lunchtime press conference at Juventus Stadium, the 47-year-old said: “We know it’s a must-win game and we want to progress in this year’s Champions League. We’ll be facing the reigning champions and they’ve bolstered their ranks in the summer - they’re opponents to be respected. But we know what we’ve done to get to this point, we’ll give as good as we get on the night.”
Assisting the Bianconeri in their mission to overcome Di Matteo’s men will be another sell-out crowd at Juventus Stadium.
And Alessio took the opportunity to make a plea to supporters on behalf of Antonio Conte.
“Antonio has told me to pass on his wish for a red-hot atmosphere at the stadium. We’ll try and show the same desire to win as we did against Lazio on Saturday night, looking to bury the chances that come our way. We’ll be up against an excellent goalkeeper in Cech, but what matters as far as we’re concerned is the ability to create opportunities.”
In spite of Juve’s potency in front of goal, which sees them placed as the highest scoring team in Serie A with 29 goals from 13 matches, journalists continue to cast doubt over the options available in attack.
Alessio’s responded by praising Saturday’s strike partnership before providing an update on the fitness of Mirko Vucinic, who was struck down by flu in the build-up to the goalless draw with Lazio.
“Giovinco and Quagliarella played well against Lazio and were the best on the field of play. Vucinic did not train yesterday, we’ll assess his condition in today’s final workout.”
