Just taking a look at the UCL winners and their strikers:

2010- Inter: Eto'o, Milito, Pandev, Balotelli
2009- Barcelona: Henry, Eto'o, Gudjohnsen, Bojan
2008- United: Rooney, Tevez, Saha
2007- Milan: Inzaghi, Gilardino, Borriello, Oliveira
2006- Barcelona: Eto'o, Larsson
2005- Liverpool*: Baroš, Cisse. Milan: Shevchenko, Crespo, Tomasson

No coincidence that the team that won the UCL have at least 1 or 2 quality strikers. Except for Liverpool's side

You want silverware? Get quality strikers.
Matri will never ber as good as Inzaghi or Vieiri, and I know people here hate and don't rate Gilardino but he's better than Matri.

Spend 18m on Matri, get Mazzari or keep Del Neri as the manager and sell Buffon and Chiellini and then we can finally call Juve a mid table team.
It's just pointless throwing off all those names when we won't even be in UCL next year... Yeah, we have to think like an UCL team to reach our spot next season, but before a great striker we still have a few gaps to cover.

Let's build the team well this time. I'll be happy if we at least get WC support (Sanchez/Pastore/Hazard) instead of getting a great striker when we already (will) have a good one. Yes, I think Matri is a done deal and I agree that we are overpaying here.

Matri is a good striker but can't create much out of nothing. 18M is far too much if you look at what that money can buy in other positions. A 18M fullback is worth much more than an 18M striker. The striker position is overpriced as it is. If you look hard enough you can find a guy who can pot half his chances.

IMO, you either spend huge on a top tier striker or you be efficient when looking for the 2nd tier guys. You can't overpay for strikers who depend on their teammates because if they get no support the money goes down the drain.

18 mil is way too much, I think the most important part of attacking isnt the actual strikers, if we get another good winger, someone like Sanchez, someone like Matri should be good enough some strikers need supply for a goal..others take the ball up and score themselves

Quag/Matri should be good if we have enough supply from the midfield, neither of them is world class but they're good enough imo

I'm sure 100% why would Cagliari get rid from their best player on January for only 2-3 mln E !

BTW i really like Matri , Matri with good SS (Sanchez/Neymar) can explode and score more than 20 goals per season .

Let's be honest here...we need to sell two of them. Matri will start next to a young gun and DP will be the young gun's sub and Toni will replace Matri when needed. Experience to back up the new blood. Make's perfect sense to me.

A Sanchez/Neymar next to Matri is mouth watering compaired to what we have had in the past. You guys underrate the potential of Matri should you have the right players next to him next season you will be whistling a different tune.

Of course,i would like to sell toni as well but it will be very difficult to get rid of them, especially with the wages they earn here...i dont expect much from marotta

Di Natale Udinese 24 (4 pens)
Cavani Napoli 20 (2)
Eto'o Inter 19 (4)
Di Vaio Bologna 17 (1)
Matri Cagliari/Juventus 16 (1)

Trez was the last one to score that many goals this far into the season, right? I can't remember...

Note where Pazzini and Gilardino are...you might say to yourself, well they aren't there at all...that's right bitches...they aren't in the top 5.

Stats? You can get Di Vaio for a lot cheaper and he has scored more goals, including 2 against us in the last match

Ergo he is much older...not much room to improve if you improve the team around him hence why matri would do well should we decide to actually build a good team.

It should say a lot that he can score for a team like Cagliari and then come and continue that at our club. Not bad at all.

So instead of signing a proven striker you would still go for the gamble of "buy em and build them". Something we did so well in the last 3 years
