I agree, we should be looking at players more in that category now, it's the only way we can make that next step up in quality - developing a 'Vidal' in attack and elsewhere.

What we have done so far has been perfect for winning Serie A.

What worries me the most is fact we don't go for younger players with potential. It's known if you don't have money you give a chance to youth. Don't get me wrong with this one I mean we can deffo afford to include in our squad one young gun with potential to become world class player. Milan did it with SES and they benefited from it massively. Instead we invest in players like Diamanti - okish player who has no chance to become world class considering his age and his whole career.
You mean like if we found a french midfielder languishing on a big team's reserve side, snapped him up and instantly integrated him into our rotation. And by the end of the year he was starting match after match and starting games for his national team against Spain?

Hah. Marotta would probably end up paying 50M or something for such a player.

Not really. I gave SES example for some reason. @JuveJay mentioned Vidal which is a good way to do it too.

In our case we should have given a chance to a young forward instead of bringing in Bendtner. As 5th choice striker he'd do just like SES did at Milan while they still had Ibra, Pato, Robinho and Maxi Lopez. I think Immobile or Gabbiadini would do much better here than Bendtner who did nothing for this team. In January we had second chance to give a youngster a chance - Bendtner's injury made some room for someone else but we looked for some temporary solution. Now Anelka is useless just like Bendtner - but we could have done much better here.

Those players are/were here to sit on the bench or had very specific attributes. Bringing Immobile here would do nothing for him, first because he's nowhere near SES talent, second because he would not find time to play. SES got playing time because Milan was rebuilding while we are winning scudetti and because he is an exceptional talent.

We bought an exceptional talent in midfield, Pogba. And even he got time at a slower rate than SES because we can't afford any hiccups so we are more cautious with youngsters.

But I know what you are saying. You want the next SES. Just add it to the list of reasons why Marotta isn't PERFECT.

Immobile was just an example. For me it could be any youngster.

I'm saying this in context of Diamanti's potential transfer. He's far from shit player like some here seem to say but it's rather impossible that he'll get any better. Our forward line is quite old I'd say and it wouldn't hurt if we take some young player for bench/rotation role. It makes sense for us since we can't afford big names especially forwards who are very expensive these days. Producing a classy forward is our only chance to actually have one. There's a lot of talk about players like Higuain, Nani, Di Maria and Ibra but we know they're impossible to get.

Yeah I want our own SES. The guy is just 20 and he's very good already.

I think hed be a decent enough signing. What about ilicic though? Similar mould, but more years ahead of him.
Diamant would be easier to get to accept bench role. Ilicic will most likely go to Roma and get more playing time.

I also think he'd be a decent back. However I'm curios to see our formation next season. I don't think he'd work in 3-5-2, on Pirlo's position.

Yeah, Diamanti has creativity and could be useful against the lower sides in order to rest some of our regulars, aslong as the cash outlay isn't big, he'd be a solid signing.

Because it's inevitable? Like when we signed Toni, Borriello and the likes I'll support them and hope they do a job for us. The sickening thing is if he blocks the signing of a bigger player, which after hearing Conte today that won't happen. I'm confident we'll get one star player(In my eyes) this summer.

To be fair, he was excellent against us too, arguably the best player on the pitch and baring Hernanes one of the few players that has impressed me when playing against us, also for Italy he had a great Euro.
