But Costa has a kind of raw energy that if fine turned can turn him into an above average player. He is explosive and has balls.

This is just a shit deal similar to the Huisjen and Kelly transfers that has people laughing at us again.
I think Costa has poor football IQ and generally plays without much intelligence, which is a big problem for a full back. At best, if he improves a lot, he might get close to Cancelo’s level and even Cancelo ended up in Saudi at 30 because nobody in Europe wanted him anymore. Honestly, I don’t think he’s comparable to Huijsen. Apart from a few explosive runs going forward, he showed nothing special in the chances he got. He’s almost 22, so he’s not exactly a kid either. Overall, I don’t see much difference between Mario and Costa and I don’t think either team comes out as a winner in this swap. It just feels like one of those pointless deals where both players will probably end up doing nothing special at their new clubs.

We are the worst run club in the world - why wouldn’t they laugh at Jj?

From winning Serie A nine times in a row to this mess… we had like double the income compared to inter and now look at us

ManU atleast has an excuse with all that spending power in the PL

I understand you (we) guys are depressed over the state of this club and certain decisions we keep making regarding players we are rumored to want, actually buy, and/or sell, but this dude is nobody to lose sleep over, come on. Besides his speed, he always looked all over the place whenever I saw him play. He's certainly not someone who is ready to help us now. This doesn't mean the new Porto guy is, but his chances are better IMO.

Alberto Costa would have been good for us if we already had an established player in his position for him to rotate with when needed. I don't see how having him as the first option for the RWB position would have worked.

The only thing I dislike about this deal is that we didn't sell him for more money instead of opting for a player exchange, which would have hopefully gotten us in a better position financially to get an even better player, but who knows with this club.

AGREEMENT WITH PORTO FOR THE DEFINITIVE DISPOSAL
OF THE PLAYER ALBERTO COSTA
Turin, 24 July 2025 – Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that an agreement with Porto FC for the definitive
disposal of the registration rights of the player Alberto Oliveira Baio has been reached for a consideration of € 15
million, payable in four financial years, in addition to variable bonuses up to a maximum of € 1 million. This
transaction generates a positive economic impact on the current financial year equal to ca. € 2.3 million, net of
auxiliary expenses.
On 24 July 2025, as described in the related press release, an agreement was also reached with the same
counterparty for the acquisition, on a definitive basis, of the registration rights of the player João Mário Neto Lopes
for a fixed consideration of € 11.4 million.
The aforementioned transactions result in a monetary balance to be received by Juventus - based on the differential
in fixed consideration and some ancillary expenses - amounting to ca. € 3 million.
These transactions - based on preliminary analysis - are found to qualify as separate and distinct transactions both
contractually and substantively; otherwise, pursuant to IAS 38 governing the matter, where in the event that the
transactions were considered to be exchanges and in case even one of the two requirements (commercial
substance and reliable measurement of fair value) necessary for the measurement of the transactions at fair value
(and, therefore, with the recognition of the positive impacts in the income statement mentioned above) was not
deemed to be met, the transactions could not be measured at fair value. Eventually it should be noted that the final
evaluations about the accounting recognition of the transactions will be performed for the purpose of preparing the
Half-Yearly Financial Report as of 31 December 2025.

Agree that he's far from Huijsen levels, but will still turn out a good player better than Joao.
Cancelo ended up in saudi because of his attitude and high wage demands, no other reason. Still a good player. This was a downgrade, sporting must be wandering what they did wrong when negotiating with Juve for Costa. Porto took us to the streets, again.

I'd be amazed if Costa turns out anywhere near Cancelo's level.
:agree:

It's a horrible deal (although a lot depend on Joao Mario) but I think a lot of people are overrating Costa. He has potential and has shown some promise but he is well off the level we need as a starter at the moment.

Physically he is very good but he lacks technique and positioning skills. Positioning can be learned but technique is harder to develop and increasingly important for wing backs. I'd be very surprised if he became close to Cancelo's level.
