As far as the player himself goes, I don't see any major red flags. This isn't a Sancho-type situation. That said, opinions from Porto fans are all over the place, so it's clearly too early to make a real judgment. That being said, the team's handsomeness index just took another hit. The guy looks like a hangover French fisherman.

It's a shame we never got to see Costa given a proper shot. I know I'm in the minority for rating some of his qualities, but he had that je ne sais quoi. Only time will tell.

This deal doesn’t even scream plusvalenza. We just signed him for 14 mil and selling him for 15 mil plus signing someone else for 10 mil doesn’t sound too good.

And if they did it just for the tiny accounting profit, let me say this:

These are exactly the kinds of deals that got us into this mess in the first place. Every plusvalenza deal we made ended up screwing us over in the long run and destroyed what was once a competitive squad.

If really want to sell Costa, we also can sell him without buying Joao Mario. Sell Costa for €15m + 1m and then use the money to buy other RB.

we're paying ONLY 10m plus the change for a 25 year old portuguese, supposedly entering his prime. if he was good then pl & la liga clubs would be all over him. and they aren't

There's nothing to wait and see. We are stuck with this stupid ass system where we need quality wingbacks for it to be successful. In another year when the bozo Tutor is fired, we'll be looking to offload the wingbacks we no longer need.

Cmon now, I know you're trying to find positives in this but there are way more red flags that simply can't be ignored. If he can't even cut it for Porto then he is sure as hell going to struggle in a far more tactical league like Italy. A lot of opinions state has has little to no footballing IQ, I'm sorry I've seen this all too many times at our club and it never works, footballing IQ is not exactly something that shows up on stats or an excel spreadsheet, you either have it or you don't, the only fans thats happy about this deal is Porto.
