he didn't play. Hogdson took him off the roster for this reason

He has recovered from a long injury layoff which plagued him last season and he needs to play on a regular basis. .... I did not utilize him in the Europa League match yesterday to keep him eligible for UEFA competition in case he joins a club involved in Europe".

Seriously if this guy can go a season without injuries (like Robben had at Bayern Monaco) I think we got an awesome midfield.
