2-9= -7

    Sorry to ruin your question, but this doesn't make sense. If the ladder is hanging off the side of a ship, and the tide rises, won't the ship rise with it? I don't think the ladder will ever go underwater!

    Hmmm that doesn't really make sense mathematically :geek: I know i'm being picky here, but the formula for your question would be

    9 - 2(x), meaning that 9 is a constant and it's not the 9 you're changing, but the x
