2012 will live long in the memory at Juventus. We won our 30th Scudetto and our 5th Super Cup. But it will also be remembered for the extraordinary results Antonio Conte and his side achieved. The Bianconeri were clearly on another level this calendar year, topping the charts in several areas. Let’s have a look at some of the numbers thanks to our friends at Football Data.
From 8 January, the day Juve won 1-0 at Lecce (with a goal from Matri), to 21 December (3-1 over Cagliari in Parma), Juventus played 40 matches in Serie A. The Bianconeri recorded 28 victories, 10 draws and 2 defeats, amassing 94 points in the process!
Juventus absolutely dominated the 2012 league table. The Bianconeri have 21 points more than Napoli and AC Milan on 73. Conte’s side also recorded the most victories and the fewest losses.
Juve scored more and conceded fewer goals than any other team. They let in 20 at an average of 0.5 per game, and found the net on 80 occasions at an average of 2 per match.
Juventus also led the way in two more areas of the league. Under Conte, Alessio and Carrera, the Bianconeri used all 120 substitutions available to them. They also scored more free-kicks than any other team: six, five of which from the boot of Andrea Pirlo.
Juventus played 52 matches in all competitions (six in the Champions League, five in the Coppa Italia and one in the Super Cup) with a record of 35 wins, 14 draws and 3 defeats. They also maintained an average of two goals per game, totalling 104 for and 31 against.
