Among the several records set by Juventus in 2011/12 season, there’s a particular aspect which saw their supremacy come out. The team of Invincibles managed by Antonio Conte can also be referred to as the team of Incomparables. The Bianconeri just conceded 20 goals over 38 championship games, with an average of 0,53 per match. An extraordinary statistic, especially when compared to records set in the previous season. The most recent record related to 20/21-sides competitions counted 24 goals and was set by three different teams: Modena in 1946/47, Fabio Capello’s Juventus in 2006/07, and Milan in the last season.
Being the least beaten defense means clinching the Scudetto. Conte’s Juventus continued this tradition already seen in recent years. Since 2007/08 up until today, the tricoloured shield has been always sewn on the shirts of the team which conceded the smallest amount of goals.
The Bianconeri’s record isn’t restrained to the national boundaries. The 20 goals conceded allowed them to be the best club in Europe, taking the 20-sides championships into account only. Just Porto were ahead, by conceding 19 goals only, even if this occurred in the Portuguese tournament which counts 16 clubs involved, therefore showing a higher average.
