Just because Chelsea terminated his contract does not mean that they have not rights to him. I think that they would still own his registration, and thus they are entitled to compensation. I think that we'll be forced to pay some money to Chelsea, but not 10 million pounds. And Moggi will probably just give them Tudor instead of the reduced compensation. Either way, it's going to take a good bit of time to sort this whole thing out and it'll probably come down to arbitration...

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that there was some clause in his personal settlement with Chelsea saying he is liable for damages. Juve having signed him could have incurred those damages I suppose. Someone mentione Uefa and that's where I think this case is going.

I think you're right. I mean the fact that he wasn't under contract is pretty clear to all of us, including the lawyers at Chelsea who are claiming this money. They're intelligent enough to not say a word if it was that clear cut, but there's obviously something to the contract. 10 m is a lot of money for a forward we didn't even need. We could've used a playmaker instead.

I hope it works out well for us.

1st Chelsea sacked Mutu. So Mutu doesn't belong to Chelsea anymore.
And he came to Juve for free.
Now Chelsea want us to pay for cost a sacked person.

I heared the problem was not his contract with Chelsea, but his affiliation to the English FA.

Mutu is still bound to the english FA, because he appealed to the FA tribunals against Chelsea, because of the fact he was fired. I think he wanted some kind of compensation (you can't just terminate a contract like that) but Chelsea argued he didn't have right to claim one because he made a serious mistake (taking cocaine), which gives the right to an employer (Ch€£$k¥) to fire him.

The appeal hasn't been judged yet, so he is yet to be released as a player.

Anyway, I fear we might have to pay some kind of compensation to Ch€£$k¥, but certainly nothing (not even near) like 10mill£!!

Well, that's what I heard, I'm no expert. and I'm sure Juve's and Ch€£$k¥'s lawyers are already on the case.

Actually, because of his ban, the FA holds his registration rights until May 18th, and AFAIK, they should then turn them over to his next employer, us.

    Anyways, thats what I read.

Then all that needs to happen is for Mutu to withdraw his appeal or for it to be struck down. When that happens, Chelsea will not have anything to shout about...

Moggi ain't stupid. If there was the slightest possibilty of us having to pay Chelsea compensation through a clause in his contract, some UEFA ruling etc. he wouldn't have brought him to Juve.
