[Europa League] Shamrock Rovers 0-2 JUVENTUS (July 29th, 2010)

It seems I have to spread some reputation around before +repping Red again. Slow down with the good posts, damn it.

I'll just say this again because it's important given the arguments above: League of Ireland fans all sing "Same old [team name], always cheating" at everyone. A dive, a poor refereeing decision, whatever. It's not a big deal. Too many of you are taking that chant way too seriously. I read a...

Drunken means habitually drunk. You don't say "You are drunken," (at least, that's quite odd). You say "The Exxon Valdez had a drunken captain." UCD, my old university team (and I grew up in the area too). We tend to have a very young team - we're the de facto youth academy for the league*...

I fucking hope they don't. But then, Bohemians would be worse. Is this what I'm reduced to? Hoping bloody Pats win the league?

They sing that at everyone. Well, not the "Juve" bit, obviously.

I can't help think of a scene from Firefly. I can't find a video, but Mal has just won a sword fight. His opponent is on the ground. "Mercy is the mark of a great man." He pokes the guy lightly with his sword. "I guess I'm just a good man." He pokes him again. "Well, I'm okay."

Yeah, I feel like that too. I guess you can do it a bit by watching a team on TV regularly, but it's not the same. Yeah. I don't know why, but I seem to have retained some mod powers. I've not used them before.

Aaron is right; Forza Roma would be fine, as would be almost anything else short of insulting Juventus, the players, staff, fans, or other members here. EDIT: I see you can't do that, so you're banned for the day. Good night. A couple. They got the ridicule they deserved.

No, they wouldn't. "Barstooler" is spoken by LoI fans with bile, and with connotations of apathy and glory-hunting. It's a mindset rather than an action. I don't usually watch Juve games, as I'm not a Juve fan per se. I am a UCD fan; but as I'm not currently living in Ireland, I'm forced to...

Half the Irish on here are LoI fans.

Actually, the definition he gave is terrible. What a League of Ireland fan means by a "barstooler" is someone who doesn't support their local team. Someone from Turin who lived in Manchester wouldn't be a barstooler for not being able to attend Juve matches.

Cheers. I'd be surprised if it's a 4-4-2 given the opposition. I like Kavanagh out of that team too, but I don't know if he'll make much of a dent at this level.

http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2010/0726/shamrockrovers_juventus_on_rte.html In terms of goalscoring threat? No one. Seriously. Stephen Rice and James Chambers in midfield (former and current Ireland U23 Internationals respectively). I rate their right back, Sullivan, too.

Twigg is their biggest source of goals by a distance. They're a defensive team otherwise, and I'd expect him to be on his own up front. Less so now, but it was one of the roughest areas in the city.

[Europa League] Shamrock Rovers 0-2 JUVENTUS (July 29th, 2010)

Hehe. The last line of the post you quoted is a reference to their best player, a striker called Twigg. Yeah, but it's not the done thing. It'd be like referring to Manchester United as Manchester. There isn't another Shamrock, but they are pretty tetchy about it.

Keep on hooping. Yeah, I think it's retarded too, but I guess it's on a par with ending every post with __***__ or whatever.

It's good comedy in itself, but it was all the more potent in that many of my parents' generation thought it was blasphemous because it dared to depict priests as human. It's about three priests in a remote Irish parish: an alcoholic, a moron and a pathetic conman. It's from the same guy who...

The Juve fans predicting a whitewash should note that Rovers are a defensive team in the middle of their season. Obviously, Juve should beat them, but they might be made work for it. By way of comparison, Deportivo only beat Shelbourne 1-0 over two legs a few years ago, though that Shels team...
