[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Pretty sure Chiellini haeded it. The guys arm was there because he was jumping trying to head the ball. He has absolutely no idea what is going on once Chiellini beats him to the ball.

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Someone can find the proper rule and correct me, but handball has to be deliberate. The position of guys arm and the time he had to react mean that there's no way that could be considered deliberate. All I'm saying is that if the officials wanted to make the easy call and not give a penalty...

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

You can't assume that they didn't see it hit his hand. It's entirely possible that they felt it would be unreasonable to give the penalty given that the defender couldn't really avoid being hit by the ball.

Yeah, but I don't think that was one he would have had a good enough view of to make the call.

Offside, obviously, was the linesman's fault. Penalty wasn't, though. It would have had to be given by the ref or the official on the goalline.

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Shows how outraged the English were about Luiz Adriano's goal that they favoured Juve. Thought he was mixed. Having been so quick to book Vidal - not that that was a wrong decision - he should have been quicker with cards generally through the game. Also thought Juve should have had a...

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Dunno. Commentators said it was the first time in ages that they'd failed to score in a (CL?) game.

Not necessarily. Can just as easily be used to sit deep and play on the counter-attack, like Napoli do against good teams (though you could argue that is actually 5-3-2). Like all systems, it depends on the personnel and the tactics.

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Well, this one was a good example of it being used properly and taking advantage of it's flexibility. Juve were able to make wee alterations to deny Shakhtar time and space, while still being able to keep a spare man at the back at all times.

Yeah, he almost looked like a real CB/sweeper in that moment. :D Agreed. For all the standard of Serie A isn't what it was, there still isn't anywhere else that people know how to defend they way they do in Serie A. Particularly, as you say, when it comes to knowing how to control space.

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

I think that's a lot to do with Shakhtar allowing Juve far more space than pretty much anyone else has this season. Someone (might have been Cavani) did speak about there being more space and it being easier, in some ways, to score in the CL than it is in Serie A.

Poll added. - - - Updated - - - Yeah, it was great to see him playing in such a controlled fashion. Hopefully he'll learn to stay on his feet and wait for the right time to tackle, rather than being rash like he so often is.

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Really good performance. Asamoah focused more on Srna, with Chiellini taking the furthest right of the attacking midfielders and that allowed Juve to be much more assertive and press Shakhtar higher up the pitch than they were able to in the game in Turin. Made it nice and clear what everyone...

Yeah, I can assure that Juve would have to do something extraordinarily stupid to lose against Celtic over two legs.

Nah, what was the story with it? 0-0 or 1-1.

[Champions League] Shakhtar 0-1 JUVENTUS (December 5, 2012)

Yup. The game doesn't have to be fixed to finish in a draw. It's a result that would suit both teams, so it's entirely possible that both will play cautiously and little will happen in the game.

I can't remember the last time I saw a game that was odds-on to be a draw. The draw is 19/20 at William Hill just now. The English really don't trust Italians or Eastern Europeans. :D
