While I don't rate Vermaelen, I would still have thought Arsenal could have asked for about 10m for him.

Yeah, I said yesterday I was struggling to think where his next job would come from.

See that it does seem to have been a sacking by mutual consent for Pulis.

I'd like to see Stoke go down if they hire someone who tries to play pretty football. Would also be good to see Charlie Adam relegated again.

Remains to be seen whether Carroll will accept the move on a permanent basis. Was Pulis sacked by mutual consent or did he actually agree it was time to leave? Hard to see where his next job would come from, because very few clubs are going to be attracted to his style of play.

This reflects remarkably badly on the great Martin O'Neill: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/may/19/sunderland-paolo-di-canio-players - - - Updated - - - Did Spurs choke? Arsenal's form since they lost to Bayern has been great.

Well, what a stunningly insightful post. Beckham - possibly the best crosser of a ball in recent years - is a better crosser than Lichtsteiner. And Ronaldo - one of the greatest strikers ever - is a better finisher than anyone Juve has just now.

Yeah, not sure he'd really suit Serie A, though. Think I'd be looking at him if was BVB and looking for a Lewandowski replacement.

Yeah, unless he quits. Of course, there may have been a limit agreed in the contract on how much compensation they'd have to pay, rather than having to give him the full value of the contract.

This is the easy bit, to some extent. The tough bit will come when they actually have to continue being successful with a new coach and a new CEO. It's also rather easier to make this initial transition when they are champions are are appointing a coach who was always going to be easy to get.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to sell him if I was Man Utd. Kagawa has had a season to adjust and the money from Rooney can be spent on upgrading other parts of their team. As good a player as Rooney is, I don't think he has contributed enough in the last couple of years to justify the wages he gets.

Best thing about Ferguson retiring is that I can now treat Man Utd with the same contempt as the other big English clubs. :weee: Felt compelled to wish Ferguson well when at Man Utd after all he did for Aberdeen. - - - Updated - - - Heading to a dinner on Saturday marking the 30th anniversary...
