Keisuke Honda - AM - CSKA Moscow

Who said anything about playing him with two defensive midfielders? He needs to play with midfielders who can defend, not necessarily defensive midfielders.

I've consistently said that signing Pirlo was a good move by Juve. It's just that since the signing I've spent a fair amount of time arguing against playing him in a 4-4-2/4-2-4 system.

I wasn't blaming Pirlo for that game, merely suggesting that it didn't exactly help Fred's argument.

Also, Fred, the fact that Pirlo was in the Milan midfield that was dominated by Arsenal is hardly helping your argument that he could function in a two man midfield.

And Diaby will have gone and helped in the middle and Hleb probably got in about Pirlo when Pirlo dropped deep to get the ball off the defence. My issue is with genuine two man midfields, where there are wingers who stay wide and a lack of players who will get stuck in.

Arsenal had success against Milan because of having much, much more pace than them throughout the team. Also, Arsenal, in the San Siro, had Flamini, Fabregas, Diaby, Eboue and Hleb in midfield. All those guys work hard and all of them get involved in the play in the middle of the park. Also...

How are Juve supposed to build a team for Conte if he doesn't know what he wants? That would just be asking for trouble.

And Arsenal had great success with that midfield, didn't they? Pirlo in a midfield two might just about be okay when playing another team playing two men in midfield, but how often does that happen? The vast majority of teams Juve play have three or four in midfield, so would be able to...

Probably. I have to say, I find it rather frustrating not knowing what system Juve will use, as it makes it difficult to properly consider the merits of many transfers this summer.

I just can't envision a midfield with Pirlo working without two hard working midfielders playing with him. You could play Pirlo-Vidal in a 4-2-3-1 if the guy in the trequartista type position was someone who'd contribute defensively, like Nedved.

Ziegler can get up the line and Aguero will be free to drift around.

Buffon Lichtsteiner-Bonucci-Chiellini-Ziegler Vidal-Pirlo-????? Krasic--------Matri--Aguero------ :boh: I'd guess Honda would be signed as backup for a number of spots, rather than as a starter.

Can't really say, since no-one seems to know if Juve are going to play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, or some variant of one of them, next season.

No issue with Juve signing him as a marketing ploy and a squad player, if the price is right. Can't say he ever hugely impressed me on the relatively few times I've seen him play.
