    Old-school Football (Anything pre-2000's)

Too bad our federation stabbed Romário in the back just before the WC. He was supposed to be part of the team. Imagine this attack in 98. Maybe Ronaldo wouldn't have felt the pressure so much with this guy at his side and the story would have been different. I don't remember exactly against...

Not the best memory to have :D But the article is great as always, my friend Emmet. I've been reading some of your older articles and interesting is not a good enough word to express how captivating they are. Always looking forward to a new article, keep them coming.

Oh man, Careca was such a phenomenal striker. Btw @Emmet something I forgot to mention. Ricardo Rocha, who played in that match, was one of my dad's childhood's friend. They played Football together when they were kids, some of his family still lived in the same street as the one I grew up in...

I don't think Pedro is that old, bro :D Well, well... What I remember from 1990's WC? I remember it was the most boring International competition I have seen to this day. I remember Romário got injured just months before and didn't make it. I remember how the whole country talked at length...

Refs today would easily start showing red cards for those. Seriously, man... one of the funniest things to happen in Football in the last couple of years was at the last Copa América, when Messi complained about being tackled too much and too hard and the ref goes "This is how we play in...

    Old-school Football (Anything pre-2000's)

:agree: The more I watch modern Football, the more I see how very few players are actually truly skilled, it's more about speed and cutting to the side of the defenders, not actually confronting and getting past him using skills. And how one is always waiting for a foul it's become a disease...

I always thought Dybala reminded me a bit of the old Ronaldo, the way he moves with the ball at his feet. There's just a little difference. Dybala's 21. Ronaldo at 16 years old was already the better player.

I don't think many people outside of Brazil ever seen this goal. I remember watching it on the news on the same day and everybody in Brazil had a laugh about it for weeks. His post match interview is also the funniest, just a naive kid fooling one of the best Gks in the game. That's Ronaldo :D

    Old-school Football (Anything pre-2000's)

@Emmet Also there was a sort of ownership that the clubs had over players back then that made them stay. Players were tied to their labor contracts, they had to have their saying or they couldn't leave. Or... they could and good luck finding another career somewhere else. So even though his...

Good post, as always. I talked to an old school Santos' fan who's a friend of mine and he denied the government/military intervention part though. He says that's a myth. The reason he stayed is because he was paid a lot of money already. And he'd get a commission for every friendly they played...

 Yeah. As for Brazilians... Atalanta had Evair, Napoli had Careca, Sampdoria had Cerezo, Torino had Muller, Fiorentina had Dunga and i'm sure there are more i don't remember... Shaaaait they were everywhere back then. Funny thing is that the mustache guy from Torino looks rather familiar...
