I guess such formation could be usefull when Pirlo is not able to play (injured or having rest) becouse in such way we have 3 players oriented on attack and Matri and two CM (Vidal Marchisio). In such case the absence of Pirlo won't be so hurmfull. But in case of 3 5 2 ... with only fullbacks...
