RVN, when healthy, has an amazing strike rate. He lead the EPL in '03 at 1 goal/116 min and was 3rd in '04 at 1/138 min. Not to mention his prolific CL performances. But last season he placed around 15th with an uncharacteristic 1/227 min.

So if we're talking about last season, yes -- he doesn't belong on any best of lists. But otherwise, he is a solid striker... even if I think he's a sleazy dirtbag. ;)

Frankly his something like 40 CL goals, in 44 games, for Man Utd, speak for itself of what a great striker he is. To even argue against such facts, is dumb imo of course...

Nobody's arguing with Ruud's goalscoring ability; we're talking about last season and last season alone

Looking at the players who are on the list, I don't think one could argue that the list is based on recent happenings (especially seeing as Vieira is listed as a Juve player :D)

Full shortlist:
Defenders: Sol Campbell (England/ Arsenal), Roberto Carlos (Brazil/ Real Madrid), Walter Samuel (Argentina/ Inter),

Midfielders: David Beckham (England/ Real Madrid), Luis Figo (Portugal/ Inter), Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic/ Juventus), Paul Scholes(England/ Man Utd), Patrick Vieira (France/ Juventus),

Forwards: Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast/ Chelsea), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Holland/ Man Utd).
Everyone on that list there doesnt deserve to be there. Either due to injury restricting them to limited influence in there teams progress, to just being downright stupid.

I tried my best not to be biased but if it were up to me I'd definitely have to put the entire Azzurri defence of Maldini, Cannavaro, Nesta and Zambrotta down for the World XI.
