Former Juve captain and winner of more Scudetti than any other Juventino, Beppe Furino has more idea than most about what it takes to win. He is what he had to say when he spoke to Radio Sport on Tuesday evening;

On strategy: “I’m not convinced that spending a lot on certain players to buy our way back can work. In the past we have always had coaches and management who could make excellent choices in the market, without spending a lot of money but rather seek out younger players who went on to be very useful for Juventus.”

On the past: “I hope that Marotta and Paratici know how to create a team for the likes of Juventus. The problem is that first you need to understand the players to be confirmed and those to be sold. It is clear that if you purchase without selling is likely to create problems.”

On midfield: “In the middle of the pitch the team is already pretty settled with the arrival of Pirlo, who is a great player. The problem is on the wings, both in midfield and at the back.”

On Krasic: “Krasic is a player I find a little strange because it has qualities such as current speed, ball control and physicality but lacks more basic skills. His talents are those of movement and beating his opponent and I think Conte will use him a lot and ask much of him. I hope he can develop a strong personality. He is an interesting player that can definitely be a regular in the starting eleven.”

On Chiellini: “He is a good player, a pillar in the Juve defence, however no one is indispensable.”

I a season in which we don't play in Europe, having a great backup, only causes you troubles.
If Pepe is the backup for Krasic and (f.e.) Bastos, it will do, no need this season to splash the cash on another winger when we won't play that many matches.
Pepe can play left and right so he'll be sufficient.
I see you point, and that's why I'm not bashing Pepe transfer. Still that is only one player to cover two spots, Marchisio also can step in, but we saw how bad he plays there. Also by that logic why do we need 5 strikers? We could have four and add one from primavera in case of an emergency. Now we have Quag, Matri and Alex as wanting starters and possible arrival of another one :S

Bastos's agent has confirmed that Lyon and Juve are negotiating, Vucinic's agent is also making noise.

so certainly they are looking for LW.
I don't consider Vucinic as winger, he would be another Martinez there IMO

ItalJuve is alive and well I see? How depressing! Is Rossi looking more and more likely too?
the dream is most certainly alive, fingers crossed!

Mirko is ten trillion times more talented than that piece of shit.

and has played in that kind of position for Roma.

True, 4 strikers would indeed be plenty considering we'll play 4-4-2.
That is why I hope we'll say goodbye to at least Toni, Iaq and Amauri and sign Aguero or Rossi.

in season 09/10 we had an insane amount of injuries. i don't have a quote but i think it was like a total of more than 60 weeks of injury time all players combined.
I'm talking about this season. Inter had more injuries for example.

Even in the season under Ranieri when we ended as second we had tons of injuries.

Same was said 5 days ago, same freaking thing.

Yes, he is, but he can't play as a winger in 4-4-2 and many here are sure that we are going to play that formation.

Lots of movement in Juventus: while the fans are waiting in lines to secure season tickets for the first season in the new stadium, the club is quickly moving (on the market): On the official site they announced the signings of Matri (15,5 million to Cagliari in 3 installments), Quagliarella (10,5 million to Napoli in 3 installments), Pepe and Motta (7,5 and 3,75 millions to Udinese, again in 3 installments).
But president Andrea Agnelli won't stop here with the spending. On Thursday afternoon a board meeting is scheduled, which will represent an extremely important moment for Juve's future. Agnelli will present the medium-term plan which will include increase of capital. The amount will be around 100 million euro for Juventus, but not all of it will be spent on the mercato (The accounts in June showed that Juve are in red, 70 million). Still, it's clear that most of the money will be used for transfers.

The first goal is to secure a top player: Kun Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Giuseppe Rossi lead the race, although Juve still secretly hope that something will go wrong between Sanchez and Barcelona. Aguero is the favorite since Juve already made an official 35m euro offer to Atletico. Yesterday there was a telephone conversation between Marotta and Gil, in which the Juve director reaffirmed the wish to sign Aguero. As for the alternatives, Tevez is on too high salary and Rossi is more affordable, but it's still not clear how much will Villarreal ask for him. Then there is Mirko Vucinic, for whom Roma is asking 20 millions, while Marotta would like to include Iaquinta or Amauri in the deal. Still, Juve already decided to spend 18m eur from the budget for Vucinic.
Last, the third player in Juve's plan to get back on the top is Lassana Diarra - perfect midfielder to play alongside Pirlo. Juve already allocated 15m eur for the midfielder, which, if added to the 9m eur which will definitely be spent on Lichtsteiner and the 53m eur allocated for the top player+Vucinic, gives a total of 77m eur from the 100m eur which will be confirmed tomorrow. The remaining 23m eur and the money earned from players' sales will be used to cover the debts.

What if one of Krasic or Bastos goes injured long term, then what? Or what if when both either one of them have a bad game and Conte looks to the bench to replace with another winger, and he sees " Pepe" . You think Pepe is going to do the job then? We need some winger who can at least do something from the bench and not just running. If we wanna be back on top, and going for a long term plan , Pepe isn't the answer. Pepe is just mediocrity. You dunt need to have world class players on the bench, but at least someone who can deliver when needed. If we get the chance to cash in this joke, we should do so. I hope those Zenit rumours are true.

No word about Bastos, we are definetely signing Vucininc as a LW. Any idea how are we going to play this season if all the above mentioned goals are reached?Excluding / Including Bastos and Vucinic?

Vucinic+Aguero will make sense if we play 4-3-3. Vucinic can cover 2 position in the attacking trio and if we ever switch to 4-4-2 he can play both as a SS and CF.
If we do play 4-3-3 then Vucinic comes in the place of Iaquinta+Amauri+Toni and we will have 6 attacking players: Aguero, Vucinic, Quag, Matri, Del Piero, Krasic.

In this case though, I don't see where can Del Piero play and if we are forced to play 4-4-2 at some point, it will have to be Pepe who'll play LW.
