because young players dont win trophies, experienced players do.

Real Madrid won most of their titles recent times by signing top players in their teens or early 20s.

Signing Zidane and Figo at late 20s or early 30s worked out, but for very brief window, and then they had to succumb to a downward spiral when you have to replace them so quick and suffer from the pressure of it (hence why Perez overdosed on youth movement, or early 20s only signings for so long in 2nd term). We havent had that high yet, but in fact one of our main issues is how MUCH we keep struggling past 2 years is our team lacks consistency outside the famous defense line and goalie who preserved. Everything else we chop and changed WAY TO DAMN OFTEn every other summer. It rarely was due to age itself, but it certainly was one of the factors, that lead to the attitude of trying re-define the shape and quality of the squad so much.

Its not easy finding top level players in early 20s, but its certainly doable.

I like Rakitic, would be fine with us signing him, but on key position like midfield, I much rather focus on more signings like Dybala, Alex Sandro, De Ligt or even Pjanic, teen to mid 20s signings that can service you in their peak years.

Replacing 32 year old Khedira and 33 year old Matuidi with 31 year old Rakitic is just prolonging our problem to another season or two. Which is fine on occasion, but when its done too much, its essentially what a key part of your midfield becomes. That and settling for freebies and hoping it will sort itself out.

This is the infamous Real Madrid team that won 3 consecutive champions league trophies.

Look at the age of each player when Real Madrid bought them:

Navas (27)
Carvajal (21) Ramos (20) Varane (19) Marcelo (19)
Kroos (24) Casemiro (21) Modric (26)
Bale (25) Benzema (21) Ronaldo (24)

Good illustration, was the point I was trying to make too. Ramos was 19 years old too when he was signed (was hyped as the teenage wonder in sevilla), and probably their best signing of that illustrious bunch (with Marcelo) in terms of peak service and total value in entirety of their tenure.

P.S Carvajal is Real Madrid product since a little child, only one that is in that list, they merely loaned him out/sold him 1 season, and immediately bought back with buyback clause. Essentially their Marchisio.

Liverpool are the current champions league holders and probably the best team in the world atm. This is the age of their players when signed.

Alisson (25)
Trent (18) Matip (25) VVD (26) Robertson (23)
Henderson (21) Fabinho (24) Wijnaldum (25)
Salah (25) Firmino (23) Mane (24)

But yeah, let’s buy 30 year oldies like Matuidi, Khedira, Rakitic... a proven formula for success in the champions league

Isn’t Henderson older than 21?

look at the ages of the players we signed this summer, last summer too. i don't see the issue here, this club signed older players when it needed to and is now, for the most part, moving away from that model.

signing rakitic doesnt throw that all out the window

So most recently successful way means only way, got it.
When you look at Bayern 2013 or Barca 2015, you see the same pattern again. Their starting XI was mostly players bought in their early 20s, combined with some youth products.

Buying players in their early 20s entering their prime may not be the only way to success, but it sure as hell is the most effective one, and that's been proven time and time again.

I would be perfectly fine with Rakitic as long as it isn't too much expensive. He's good and would add some creativity that is desperately needed. I'd imagine he has two more decent seasons left in him and would fit in perfectly on the right side of Pjanic and Matuidi.

For next summer Tonali is a must, he would be my first signing.
Absolute must on Tonali. The highest promise young Italian CMs of the last 6-7 years were probably Verratti, Jorginho, Barella, and now Tonali. We missed out on the first 3, missing out on the last of them as well would be a disgrace. These are players who we could easily keep through their entire primes, being Italian. I don’t care what English teams/PSG bid for Tonali, we need to outbid and sign the kid. Could be the backbone of our mid for the next 10 years.

Then giving good effort to get one of Chiesa and Zaniolo would be nice too.

Khedira (32)
Matuidi (32)

Pjanic (29)
Ramsey (28)
Can (25)
Rabiot (24)
Bentancur (22)

Please let's not sign Rakitic while having Khedira and Matuidi, only if you sell them. No need to make the midfield even older with players on high wages. We have experience, age and high wages already. Let's sign promising up and coming players for the midfield. Sell Can asap, sell the old duo, and let's get some excitement in that area. Napoli signs Fabian and Elmas, Inter signs Sensi and Barella, Roma signs Pellegrini and Zaniolo,

We need a player like Vidal, we didn't get Nainggolan, Allan, Barella, find the next one. Matuidi is too poor for it and Rakitic is not that player.

Younger talents? Early mid 20s players is basically the norm for most top teams in terms of when you buy quality players. It doesnt need to be teenagers (its only likes of Mbappe or De Ligt and so on, that become must buys in their teens). But young enough to be going into their peak for their entire tenure with us. Same age we bought likes of Dybala etc.

We will get 2 out of Chiesa, Tonali and Zainolo im the summer, if not all of them. Mark my words.

Would be amazing if we did really.
