Why would de Vrij join us, or why would you want him or think the club is interested in signing him?

He'll join a team where he'll start. Makes no sense to join us to ride the bench.

And makes no sense for us to sign him and have someone like Rugani as 5th choice.

A versatile player like Can or Howedes acting as 5th choice or Barzagli extending and agreeing to be 5th choice sounds more reasonable.

I just hope he'll join an EPL team and not Inter or Roma. Or replace Albiol at Napoli.

If only it was that easy the last 3 summers..

Common, we know atleast one top player will be leaving to balance the books. We need to get used to it now.

I don't see us spending €80M on a player without selling someone

Wage demands and transfer fees have sky rocketed. Only way we can keep up is by improving our revenue by a large margin but that isn't happening so the only other solution is reshuffling the squad with sales every year or two.
We can afford to spend 80m on a player now. Esp if all we need are a CM and a RB.

It's funny - a few in yrs ago, the same people used to moan about why we can't spend a lot on a single player, not understanding our financial situation. Now, when we actually can spend a decent amount on one player, they moan that we can't lol. Always a few yrs behind.

We don't have to sell to buy. Vidal, Pogba, Bonucci, Dani Alves all left for diff reasons, and none of them are we had to sell to buy. Dybala or Alex Sandro might leave, but again, it'll be because they want to, not because we're pushing them out the door for $.

On our history of selling, in 80s and 90s, we used to buy very good young players and sell them in their late 20s after getting most out of them while they still had a little market value left.

Yeah but we still managed to get to the final and almost winning it.. We werent that far from beating what IMO was the best Barcelona ever...
I agree with the assessment on Vidal and Pogba though as I do have a soft spot for Vidal while I am angry with Pogba...
That being said - If Vidal signs for Inter the whole "soft spot" thing will disappear in a second!
Yes, but the general opinion was we weren't really a CL final team, that we just happened to get there that season. Bayern, Barca, Real were considered the contenders. And I wouldn't say we almost won it.

We have always operated like that. I recently watched the official Juventus movie and it had Gianni Agnelli saying that at Juventus we rather focus on young talents and develop them instead of spending crazy money on the market. It was in the eighties and is still actual.

Yes just like we dint need to sell Pogba to buy Higuaín...

Bonucci's sale practically paid for Bernardeschi transfer

My opinion is based on our market activity in the last three years where our net spend has been pretty low.

We won't spend a big amount on a player without selling a top player.

Anyone think we could afford Ozil?

Sanchez?

Bosmans :beppe:
I was just watching some commentary about Arsenal and Arsene Wenger's failure if both of those leave on a free and Arsenal doesn't make it to the CL. Epic stuff.

The first question is will Arsenal sell them mid-season, ensuring they aren't going to a direct competitor or let them leave to (supposedly) City and United? Maybe Arsene/al doesn't see United and City as competition anymore?

Then, considering the stratospheric transfer fees paid recently for top players, is it not more reasonable to give these guys higher wages instead?

Sanchez will be real good for us, replacing Mandzukic and we've tracked him for a long time. If Dybala leaves for PSG ( or elsewhere ...another 150+M transfer I suppose) we can get Ozil for a replacement and have cash to burn.

Save on transfer fee so we can give them strong wages.

Man, i don’t recall ever seeing a Bosman list with so many amazing opportunities.

Surely this is causing Beppe sleepless nights lol

Nonsense! Sanchez would partner Mandzo in suffocating and destroying the opposition

This man knows what's up
Mandzu will never win some of the tuzers, not fancy enough
I've been dying to see a Mandzo-Tevez, Mandzo-Sanchez, Cavani-Sanchez, Cavani-Tevez type of duo. Merciless suffocating strikers, bullies!
A berba-mirko duo for pure flair and fancy

Yeah, it was eventually going to happen I guess, if wage/transfer value gaps keep rising. But this year is going to be amazing - free players in almost all positions. De Vrij, Can, Goretzka?, those two...

I don't mind such players, but sometimes you need to operate the ball in higher speed too and for that you need your fancy and flair. I don't think our team lacks workers without the ball (especially when Dybala is not playing), but we would do well to get a few more technical players imho. Obviously balance is key and that is why I thought Sanchez would be an overall upgrade on Mandzu, except as an aerial threat, which admittedly might limit our current A plan severely. Allegri, on the other hand, says you always adapt to your best players...

Roma got Shick And Howedes was proved even more injury prone than we expected, but if Allegri wasn't so obsessed with 4-2-3-1 at the start of the season and Dybala was stronger mentally, we would be leading serie A
