Well you asked Holland is actually a province of the Netherlands, just like England is a state within the UK as the map below shows (I was born and raised in Zeeland btw, the archipelago province in the South-West). English speaking people often refer to the Netherlands as just Holland because Holland is by far the most economically important province and it also holds most of the major cities that are famous around the world.
About Dutch - that comes from 'Dietsch' (pronounced as Deets). In the early middle ages a large Germanic nation consisting from Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland existed, the inhabitants of which were called 'Dietsch'.
