I may be in the minority, but I'm not very impressed with Portugal at all.

They have talent, yes, but they have no idea what to do with it.

This team self destructed at the World Cup, and they haven't really impressed me in any of their Int'l friendlies that they've played either.

Thank God my portugese friends don't read this, they'll kill me.

To me, they've only gotten a couple of years older, not better.

Gomes, Costa, Conceicao, Figo, Baia, are all in their 30's or pretty close to it.

Granted, playing at home will help somewhat, but nor enough to put them over the top, in my opinion.

What's even more surprising, is that we agree on something!!!:D

They have youngsters comming through too USA Juvnetini. Ronaldo at Man Utd and Quaresma at Sporting (I think) for a start. If those guys are on good form, and they combine well with the old hands, they could go a long way.The team is a bit shakey at the back though, as always. Home advantage can do a lot too. Remmeber how it helped Holland in Euro 2000? Or Korea in WC 2002? France in 98? Engladn in 96?

Was Euro 94 held in Denmark?

I agree, that Ronaldo and Quaresma are two up-and-comers for the Portugese, but the still have way too many holes in defense and especially in goal.

Vitor Baia as your #1??? WTF!?!?!?!?!?!

Baia was once considered a very fine keeper. If he has a good tournament, he will be good enough. I have to agree that the back-line (and the cover it gets from midfield) is sub-standard for a tournament-winning team.

Holland in 2000 euro, didn't do much.

Italy in WC 90, see Holland in 2000 euro.

Point is, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

And you can argue that Italy in 90 and Holland in 2000 were every bit as good as this current Portugese team.

Holland got knocked out only on penalties in the semi-final. That's not doing much? Who do you support, Real?

Real!?!?!?!!?

Oh, shame on you, sir.

I still can't get over what happened to Italy in that final, everything else is just a blur.

Quaresma is at Barcelona.

Sporting received Fabio Rochemback as part of the exchange.

Good deal for Sporting.

NOT!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm... You sure about that?

Quaresma has been bad for Barca so far, many of their fans think he will never be good enough for the club. Rochemback has been pretty good for Sporting on the other hand.
Also, Quaresma was gonna leave sooner or later, and getting a good player like Rochemback (at least by Portuegese standards) doesn't seem all that bad to me.

If Holland continues to play like they played today, then they will win it for sure. But, this throws up something interesting. By winning in such sonvincing fashion, they have thrown cold water on the idea of sacking Advocaat even though they're going to Prtugal. I still think that they should considering his incompetence, but they will surely not, especially with the current score-line.
