I am sure many of you recall last year, around this time, when we were all so fucking dismayed at the new restrictions on non-eu players. Taking it down to 1 ruined our plans to grab both DZeko and Krasic, and in the end we spunked our load on the serb, then saw Edin trundle of to Man City in the January window and into a far from seamless transition from German to English football.

The apparent aims and horrible consequences of the restrictions are separate matters. Closer to home is the change in the ruling this summer mercato, allowing not one, but now two non-eu signings from outside of Italy, per club.

Unlike last summer, we do not seem to be in the same frenzy, but surely, with the copa america just passed, and sporadic rumours popping up over the last few months, the club likely do have their eyes on the two to fill the spot. So who are they?

Vucinic? The inconsistent, but versatile and on occasion highly skilled Montenegrin seems to be the one target of real substance. Much to the chagrin of many juventini.

Bastos? Has he received his EU passport yet?

But who else???

(kyle just reminded me that Vidal is number one...so this should be about who will be our one remaining non-eu signing)

I forgot vidal...so we have just the one left then...and is that to be Mirko? or does marotta have a better rabbit in his hat? And then again, Vucinic won't count as one...as he is already registered in Italy.

Are we linked with any top drawer talent from south america????

    Maybe a RB backup?

We still need to sign Lugano, Mirko, Vargas (or other LW - maybe non-EU) and hopefully Coates.

you have any idea, Kyle of who will fill the spot?
Well it won't be any of Vucinic, Vargas or Lugano. It shouldn't be Bastos, if he is signed, but I don't know his passport situation. If Ivanovic has a passport he would be an awesome signing but that's unrealistic.

I don't know of any likely candidates.

If we get Lugano I doubt we would buy another CB. Especially not one that costs €15m+ as Chelsea have no reason to sell him. Hopefully we would buy Coates for €2.5-3M especially if Lugano comes for free.

Alvaro Pereira or, if Quag leaves, possibly Dzeko ... most likely you'd wait till January though, especially for the Bosnian.

If I had been less hungover when I started the thread, I may well have remembered Arturo's arrival...but still, what the hell eh...I was recalling the tension of last summer Dzeko v Krasic, and wondering what others thought of the remaining spot. It seemed so valuable last summer, but this time around we don't seem to have any of the same problems. Although I find acmilan's mention of dzeko interesting. If Tevez ends up staying, he HAS to start for them, as does aguero. Where would leave dzeko and balotelli...silva and johnson and whoever they purchase for the offensive unit. Was Edin truly interested in us last year?? A loan would be useful, but then what of Matri? who we paid quite highly to being to turin...

I still have this childish hope that we are to grab a young superstar in the making from south or central america...someone like...joel campbell!
