Some lonely people on that line probably didn't know she was famous or a porn star. They just see free hugs and want some warmth and human contact.

One of my closest friends studied for years in Japan, and she was astounded how lonely and hermetic like people can get in Japan.

And a swede being shocked about loneliness is something, since here we perfected the art of social distancing and avoiding eye contact or talking to strangers. But Japan is another level apparently.

Japan is wild, though. Given their birth rate, they won't exist in about 100 years.

Really? Was Sweden like that forever or you noticed a huge change over the past 10 years?

Not a huge change. Its just generally like that, the social norms. They are quite friendly and open in the right setting, work place, same hobby/organisation/school/party, unspoken accepted form and group to be open/social.

But random strangers? Forget about it. Quite guarded and politely shy.

I'm so used to it, that on vacations, my first reaction to random strangers frequently approach me/us, is to think to myself, "are they crazy?":D

More than Finland? There are Finnish jokes about how anti-social it gets...

Belgium doesn't exist, and yet they're getting sex changes and impregnating themselves

    Nice…

I’ve learned a number of Finnish jokes here. And they are anti-social and dark like nothing else I’ve experienced.

Things about needing anywhere from 8-15 alcoholic drinks to get them to speak. Staring at their shoes all the time. Speaking once on a four-day ice fishing trip and being called out as a chatterbox for it.
