It is a different kind of stress when you're working, but it's still bad even if you have an entry level position. The stress of working for little to no money and feeling like you're not getting anywhere can be really depressing.

It all sucks, but I would definitely rather be studying. Too bad I have to do both next year :D
I have to back up a bit of what Kate says. With studying, it can be an all-time grind whereas with employment you can mentally take a break more when you leave the office -- especially earlier in your career. But there's a big chasm when you get out of school. You go from facing your next mid-term, your next semester, your next class to facing what you want to do with your life until you retire. That's a very different horizon in the "real world", and I know stumbled a bit when I first faced that.

But as a student, you have singularity of purpose. You really fully control your own destiny in a lot of ways, and you're not as dependent on obnoxious coworkers or terrible bosses. So enjoy it for what it is, while you can.

We had three new students start on our floor last week. After three days two were in tears and left and one left a day later being unable to adapt to a working week.

Student life is the easiest I know. Most in the UK get aload of money off the government for loans then go out on the piss every night. Sounds difficult to me. Pussys.

Its fucked up in india as well. Decades ago the govt introduced "reservation" in almost everything for the lower caste "untouchables". Sure they were poor back then and ironically these days anyone who can provide a certificate to prove that they belonged to the poor untouchables are rich faggots. The ones suffering are the real poor class and anyone who falls in the "open" category. (open means you are anything but the untouchables)

What I found screwed up in India is that you have castes like the Gujjars who want to be demoted to Serie D so they can get more government jobs.

Its true.

Let me give you an example of how fucked up the system is in india. Back when i was trying to get in govt med school in india we had to give this CET (Common Entrance Test) which was worth 200 points. Seats would be given out on merit basis. I had 181 points and during that year the govt seats closed out at 186. I had a friend who belonged to mistari caste (the one who do the construction work on the lowest level). He scored 61 points and got a free seat on his reservation and the asshole was like "meh, fuck it.Its too much work" and rejected the seat. Imagine the gun powder ready to blow up my ass.

being a student or having a full time job which is less stressful? well i think it comes down to every ones situation and personality to be honest. there are advantages to both really. for me i'd kill to be out of uni aka my Vietnam and working simply bec i've been enrolled in the worst faculty possible PHARMACY oh yes it might sound appealing to some, some chicks might dig the white coat but trust me there is more BS to it than the bush administration invading iraq for weapons of mass destruction, the levels of stress in it are enormous and pile up with every quiz, lab session, midterm and final not to forget oral exams!! the stress of spending more than u should in it ( aha in my case) are enormous and the fact u have yr best friends graduating, working, making money, and travelling or getting married adds more misery!! so i would say it comes down to personal situations. sure i dont get yelled at by any human being not even my profs unlikemy friends who have to be on there desk on time or else they dont get enough of crap down there throat from there boss, its true i dont have to worry about reaching certain targets or else i dont get commision which would in return result in my final pay check, but when compared to uni i think the only advantage being a student has over being an employee is the freedom of making yr own choice. if u dont want to go to yr lecture u can always have round two of sleep, and still some how manage to pass at the end of the semester sth u cant possible do at work. other than that i'd gladly take earning my money over being a student any day of the week. so being a student is not always the happiest of times, at first hell yes being in uni is superb but if god forbit u are in dentistry, medicine, engineering, or pharmacy u quickly and surely will realize its no fun at all as u hit the books 5 weeks into the semester just so u can make the passing grade and get the courses over and done with.
