That's a little of what I'm facing. Except instead of another city, it's now car commuting where I used to take the subway plus a role that's a lot better of a learning opportunity than the kinds of higher-paying roles I've had to date. Sometimes the extra money just doesn't cut it, you know.
That's typical in my industry in my country, btw. And it makes financial sense too. A Dubliner doing the same job, for example, is going to have higher cost-of-living expenses than if they lived in, say, Newgrange.
That's the beauty of it though, we don't create jobs outside of Dublin and Galway and their commuter belts, we leave the farmers to their hay and inbreeding

Look at the single-family 2nd Quarter 2011 pdf (the top link). The average housing price in the San Francisco metro area was at $515k. By comparison, the Houston, Texas metro area was averaging at $156.5k. That's over a 3x difference just in the average price of a home between the metro areas of two major cities.
So I just ran 3 miles and I'm sitting here browsing the forums, drinking some recovery drink, and basically cooling down. My mother just handing me a glass of wine. Apparently, its my father's birthday and the party has started.
