Mazzarri started his managing career as Renzo Ulivieri's assistant coach for Napoli in 1998. His first first team experience came in 2001/2002 for Sicilian Serie C2 team Acireale, where he already worked as a footballer from 1992 to 1994. Successively, he returned in his native Tuscany to coach Pistoiese of Serie C1 in 2002/2003 and Livorno of Serie B in 2003/2004, bringing the amaranto led by Cristiano Lucarelli back in Serie A. He served as coach of Reggina from 2004 to 2007, leading the Calabrian side to three consecutive savings, the latter being particularly impressive, as obtained in the final Serie A day of the season despite a 11 points deduction. On May 31, 2007 he was announced as new Sampdoria coach.[1]

He served as Sampdoria boss for two seasons, in a team that enjoyed a considerable improvement in results also thanks to the likes of new signing Antonio Cassano, who publicly praised Mazzarri's coaching abilities. Sampdoria's 2007–08 campaign ended in an impressive sixth place which ensured qualification to the UEFA Cup. Mazzarri's Serie A fortunes with Sampdoria slightly declined in 2008–09, as the blucerchiati ended their campaign in 13th place; despite this, he managed to guide his team into the Coppa Italia Final, notably defeating Italian champions Inter 3–1 on aggregate in the semifinals, before being defeated on penalty shootouts by Lazio in a one-legged final. Mazzarri left Sampdoria by mutual consent at the end of the 2008–09 season.

On 6 October 2009 he was appointed as the new manager of Napoli, replacing Roberto Donadoni.[2] He led Napoli to 6th place in the Serie A, being rewarded from chairman De Laurentis on 22 May 2010 with a contract that runs until June 2013

Marotta already knows him from Sampdoria, right?

I don't like Italian coaches and their typical style from 90s that's being handled too easy in Europe. The only Italian coach who plays different is Spalletti.

Before you say Mazzarri is different, no, he isn't because he just has a squad full of Argies and technicians.

    Mazzarri gives Juventus job hint

Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri refused to deny reports he has been approached by Juventus. “There’s no point talking about this now.”
The tactician has been linked with the job in Turin next season, as Gigi Del Neri is hanging by a thread after three consecutive defeats.

When asked about the rumours, Mazzarri’s reaction in today’s Press conference was unexpectedly coy.

“It is gratifying when your worth is recognised, but I am not falling for this,” he declared.

“When there is still a quarter of the season to go, there is talk about things that do not interest me.

“I have 10 Finals ahead of me and I am not interested in anything else. There’s no point talking about this now.

“At the end of the campaign we all evaluate the situation, quite aside from contracts, and I will say what I think.”

Mazzarri does well to get the most out of his team. Hardly ever injured, all work themselves to the final whistle. Would the training techniques work well at the Juventus facilities (where everyone gets injured)?

    Not my first choice.

:lol2: It was only expected to be honest. Hopefully Napoli fail to make the CL so we won't see this link ever again.

We the fans know we don`t have a choice
I hope the board know it too
If we start from the back from the board to the managers then im fine with that. Mediocre managers means mediocre players. Im getting sick and tired of the name Juventus getting dragged into that ''Mediocre'' category these last few years and with all these basic players we've purchased average Italians will be our downfall. Lets have a massive clear out this summer and do things properly for once. more champions and less chump-ions.

It's going to be Mazzarri or Spalletti . A small chance of getting Guidolin but those are the real options for us. Sadly, I think it is highly unlikely for us to get Deschamps or a foreigner, which plays this era's football. It's Mazzarri
