UN TORNEO "MONDIALE"
TRE date sono le colonne portanti del Torneo di Viareggio: 1947, 1982 e 2006.
Il 1947 è l'anno della fondazione del CGC in un bar sulla famosa passeggiata.
Il 1982 è quello del mitico mondiale spagnolo, vinto dagli azzurri tra le cui fila c'erano ragazzi che solo pochi anni prima avevano calcato i campi della Coppa Carnevale. Tra gli altri Zoff, Scirea, F. Baresi, Antognoni, Causio, Rossi, Collovati, Oriali, Bordon e Conti. In pratica il primo "marchio di fabbrica" a livello mondiale. Un enorme ritorno d'immagine proprio nell'edizione in cui trionfò la Fiorentina, che in Spagna '82 aveva il suo massimo rappresentante in Antognoni. Stagioni scintillanti ne seguirono e con esse la crescita esponenziale della manifestazione che piano piano era passata dalle canoniche 16 squadre partecipanti alle 24 del 1990. Un allargamento figlio del successo e della rinascita dei settori giovanili in tutto il mondo. Specchiarsi proprio a Viareggio è stato un obbligo per i più grandi club italiani e stranieri che si contendevano un trofeo diventato simbolo del proprio prodotto interno e delle scommesse vinte sui baby.
Nel 1997 l'ulteriore passaggio a 32 partecipanti in anticipo di cinque anni sulla linea dei Mondiali di calcio. Gli Anni Novanta sono anche quelli che alimentano i campioni futuri, quelli che daranno la quarta stella al calcio italiano. La globalizzazione porta via via tutti i continenti ad essere presenti al mondiale per club a livello di Under 20. Nella prima edizione del nuovo secolo un'ulteriore spinta fino ad arrivare alle 40 squadre e quindi alle 48 attuali. Un circo variopinto si affaccia ogni anno a far da contorno al famoso Carnevale viareggino. Dentro la "pista" ancora campioni, tanti per numero e valore.
Un destino favorevole ha voluto proprio il "figliolo Marcello" Lippi alla guida dell'Italia a "Germania 2006", lui che ha partecipato al torneo come giocatore e poi come allenatore della Sampdoria Primavera. Ventidue campioni del mondo hanno regalato felicità a tutti gli italiani e massimo orgoglio al Centro Giovani Calciatori. Un orgoglio che ora è sostenuto giustamente da Buffon, Peruzzi, Amelia, Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Oddo, Pirlo, Gattuso, Totti, De Rossi, Perrotta, Barone, Toni, Del Piero e Inzaghi. Sedici stelle su ventitrè hanno vissuto il torneo direttamente, più il tecnico: davvero l'università del calcio.
Per il Viareggio è sempre tempo di Mondiale. Ieri, oggi e domani all'insegna dei giovani e delle loro speranze.

A "World" Cup

3 dates are the most important foundations of the Viareggio Cup: 1947, 1982 and 2006. 1957 was the year of foundation of CGC in a bar on the famous street. 1982 was the year of the legendary spanish world cup, won by the Italians some of which just years before were boys playing in the Coppa Carnevale.

Some of these include Zoff, Scirea, Franco Baresi, Antognoni, Causio, Rossi, Collovati, Oriali, Bordon and Conti. This was in practice, the first fabrication mark at world level. An enormous return in the edition in which Fiorentina won, where in Spain '82 they had their main representative in Antognoni

Scintillating seasons followed and with this, the growing of the cup that from 16 participants it went up to 24 in 1990. The enlargement was a success and from that came the rebirth of the youth sectors around the World. Doing well at Viareggio was an obligation for the biggest Italian clubs and those around the world who were competing for a trophy that was a symbol of the clubs youth sector and the battles won by their "babies"

In 1997 the competition grew to 32 participants, anticipating the change in teh actual world cup by 5 years. The 1990's provided future champions, who provided Italy with their 4th star. Globalisation provided all continents the chance to appear at the world cup for clubs at under 20. In the first edition of the new century another push increased the competition to 40 teams, and then to the actual 48 there are now.

A favorable destiny wanted that Lippi guides the Italian team at Germany 2006, as he participated in the tournament as a player and then as a coach with the Sampdoria Primvera. 22 world champions gifted to all the Italians and most pride to the Centro Giovani Calciatori(Youth players club). A pride held rightly by Buffon, Peruzzi, Amelia, Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Oddo, Pirlo, Gattuso, Totti, De Rossi, Perrotta, Barone, Toni, Del Piero and Inzaghi. 16 stars out of 23 have personally experienced the tournament, plus the coach: truly a university of football. Genoa-Spurs opens Viareggio
Saturday 19 January, 2008

Genoa-Tottenham will open the world famous Viareggio Coppa Carnevale youth tournament with Daniele De Rossi at the ceremony.

The competition reaches its 60th edition and will involve 48 youth teams from all around the world.

Players eligible for the trophy must have been born between January 1, 1988 and December 31, 1992.

Last year’s winners Genoa will open the contest by taking on the Tottenham youth team on January 28.

The opening ceremony sees an important figure read out the pledge of fair play and sportsmanship and this year it will be performed by Roma star De Rossi.

The World Cup winning midfielder first burst on to the scene when he starred for the Giallorossi in the 2002 Viareggio tournament.

It is considered a classic shop window for young talent to find a new club and agents from all over the globe will be in attendance. The Final is on February 11.

The new edition of the prestigious Viareggio Tournament, one of the most important youth tournaments in the world, is getting closer. The 60th edition will be played between January 18 and February 11.

Just over a month from the tournament, the 12 groups encompassing the 48 teams taking part have been drawn. Juventus will play in Group 2 with Mexican team Pumas, International Allies from Ghana and Italians Massese.
