Yea -- I mean, Evra is solid and all ... but Carvalho had one of the best seasons I've seen a central defender have in years. Calm, cool, collected, and almost incapable of making the slightest mistake or questionable challenge.

Deco Wins Best Player Award

During Thursday night's gala at Montecarlo, Portuguese midfielder Deco won the best player award for last season's European Cups.
Deco preceded former team mates Ricardo Carvalho (best defender) and Vitor Baia (best goalkeeper), and Fernando Morientes (best forward).

The ex-Porto player will be looking to repeat his achievements with Barcelona this year.
