Category: Match Reports

At San Siro, Juventus line up Chiellini on the left flank while Balzaretti replaces the unavailable Zambrotta on the right. The attacking pair is Ibrahimovic-Trezeguet. At the start, it’s the very Chiellini who becomes protagonist with a great regaining on Martins, launched in a counter attack. The match is lively: after 8 minutes, Ibrahimovic deflects Camoranesi’s cross pass with a header but Julio Cesar clears. Anyway the game had been stopped because of a foul of the very Swede. One minute later, Cambiasso’s attempt on goal with a left-footed from the edge of the penalty area is saved by Buffon. After 11 minutes, Inter’s goalkeeper deflects Emerson’s finish from outside the area, while on 13’ minutes Camoranesi’s right-footed drive from a very angled position is deflected for a corner by Samuel. The Nerazzurri midfielder aims at goal four minutes later but the shot is too high over the bar. On 24’ minutes, Adriano plays a header but Emerson deflects it for a corner and three minutes later Martins attacks with a low left-footed kick, saved by Buffon. The Bianconeri goalkeeper keeps good guard also on 37’ minutes when he easily controls Figo’s right-footed shot from outside the box. On 42’ minutes, Adriano puts a free kick in but it should have been an indirect free kick while the Brazilian kicks it directly on goal so the strike is not valid; the game starts again with a return for Juventus. In the final minutes, Inter attack with Martins and Adriano but Buffon keeps good guard.

During the break, the two coaches make no substitution and the second half starts with a tempo lower than the first, to the extent that 12 minutes must pass before a dangerous action occurs: Martins shifts on the right and serves for Adriano in the penalty area, but the Brazilian is anticipated by Thuram’s perfect intervention and the latter finds the perfect timing even more precisely two minutes later when he interposes between the goal and the ball kicked by Martins who was about to take advantage of Cannavaro’s uncertainty. On 17’ minutes Kily shoots from the edge of the box but completely misses the target. During the best moment for the Nerazzuri, Juve find a blaze and score on 18’ minutes: Camoranesi controls a fine drive from Cannavaro and feeds Ibrahimovic with a perfect low cross shot and the Swede, on the run, puts a left-footed shot in (0-1). A little later, Ibrahimovic makes way to Del Piero. Inter attack head-first and finds the goal of the draw after 29 minutes with Samuel deflecting a cross shot from the flag with a header that ends behind Buffon’s back (1-1). After 37 minutes Del Piero shoots a free kick a little high over the cross bar but three minutes later, from about a twenty-metres range, he doesn’t miss the target: a strike into the top corner of the goal, again on a still ball, and it’s the 1-2 goal. Inter try to react and in the middle of the injury time Recoba’s free kick hits the post, Burdisso gets the ball but he can’t deflect it into goal. It’s the last thrill of a wonderful match that Juventus has conquered, strengthening their lead in the championship.
