Massimiliano Allegri says his men will be taking each Champions League game as it comes in their bid to reach the competition’s knockout stages for a second successive year.

Manchester City’s late win over Sevilla and a resurgent Gladbach means there’s still all to play for in the three group stage fixtures that remain, and the Bianconeri boss is under no illusions regarding the tough tests that lie in wait.

Speaking to the media in Germany, he began: “When you participate in the Champions League the big aim is always to reach the last hurdle. Now we’ll take things one step at a time, focusing on our current goal of reaching the knockout stages, which is no easy task given that there are still three games remaining.”
Standing in the way of the group leaders and three crucial points tomorrow night are a Borussia Monchengladbach side in red-hot form.

According to Allegri, the key to stopping the Foals in front of a sell-out Borussia-Park crowd will be a composed approach when in possession and defensive diligence on the break.

“Borussia have won six league matches on the bounce, one in the domestic cup and they drew against us. Tomorrow we’ll need to be on our game from a technical standpoint and deny them space in which to hit us on the counter.

“Football’s a simple game: you need to play well, make as few errors as possible and look to get the best out of those who cross the white line.”

Leonardo Bonucci says the Bianconeri will have to be at the races when they pit their wits against an in-form Borussia Monchengladbach outfit in tomorrow night’s Champions League Matchday 4.

Wins against Manchester City and Sevilla were offset by a home draw when the two sides last met a little under a fortnight ago and the Germans domestic resurgence, which has seen them win six Bundesliga games on the bounce, means that Juventus will require a top-rate performance if they are to maintain pole position in the race for this season’s knockout stages.

Previewing the game in Germany, the defender began: “The change in management has shaken things up. Schubert’s arrival has also seen them steady the ship at the back. We can’t allow them space in which to play because their pacey strikers can hurt us.”

Aiding the Bianconeri in their quest to claim an important result will be Saturday’s morale-boosting victory over local rivals Torino, in which the team’s battling qualities were firmly out in force.

“We’ve shown that if we give 110 per cent we’ll claim important results. The motivational aspect is crucial: sacrificing ourselves, fighting for every ball and staying compact and accurate in both phases of play. These have been the secrets behind our success in previous seasons and we need to keep putting them into practice.”

The coveted France international will not be leaving Turin to join the La Liga giants, according to his agent, who insists three clubs bid €100m for the midfielder in the summer
Outspoken agent Mino Raiola says there is no chance of his sought-after client Paul Pogba leaving Juventus to join La Liga giants Barcelona.

Pogba is one of the most coveted midfielders in European football and was heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou during the close-season.

The France international is also a reported target for the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, but has thus far rejected any overtures in favour of staying with Serie A champions Juve.

Raiola stated as recently as last month that Pogba could still join Barca - who a won a treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League last season - but the agent has now seemingly ruled out that possibility.
"[Joining] Barcelona? If I'm honest no because we'd already spoken with them and there was no chance of them buying him," he told Italian radio programme 'La politica nel pallone'.

"We've said that when we feel the time is right, with the right project, the right team and all parties in agreement, we'll be able to leave."

Raiola re-stated a claim that Juve received three offers that could have amounted to €100 million with add-ons during the close-season, but claimed it is no formality that Pogba will leave Turin.

"In the end there were three big clubs with €85 million on the table, or a little more including add-ons, which took the total to €100 million, but a deal was not concluded because Pogba didn't want to leave and Juventus wanted him to stay for at least another year," he added.

"Why not [stay at Juventus]? We turned down several teams last year, we're looking for the right moment.

"This means that Pogba has not yet decided to definitely leave at the end of the season."

Should this thread also be for discussion of the quotes?

If so, this part:

is the definite proof (if any was needed) that Pogba won't stay here for the long term. Maybe he won't leave this summer already, but he won't be here come 2018 or so, that much is virtually sure.

If not, please delete this post/move it to the Pogba thread.

Stefano Sturaro feels every Juventus player must up their work rate in order to get the team back on track after a disappointing start to the season.

The Serie A champions sit 10th in the table after 10 games, trailing leaders Fiorentina and Inter by nine points.

Midfielder Sturaro is adamant everybody at the club is committed to the cause, but has admitted they must keep growing if they are to be successful again.

"Every one of us has to give more, even if we're all professionals, we are committed to the cause and we're training very hard," the midfielder told Sky Sport.

"We need to keep growing as a group and get to know one another better. With each passing game, we face different situations."

Juventus will be looking to return to winning ways when they meet Empoli at the weekend after they were held to a draw in Tuesday's Champions League encounter with Borussia Monchengladbach.

And Sturaro said: "It's very important that we bring home three points.

"Empoli are capable of asking similar questions of us as Borussia: they play good football and we'll need to be compact and deny them space in which to pass the ball around."

"When you play in the Champions League, it's normal that the ultimate goal is the maximum, and the maximum is to win it," Allegri said.

"You have to find the best physical and mental condition in March, and above all have everyone available. Last year I think our strength was that we arrived in excellent physical condition, at an excellent time of the season.

"It's difficult to say [how far Juventus can go] let's take it one step at a time, since we can't win two games [in a row] in the league we're looking to get through in the Champions League.

"It's [the group] not done yet, because it's certainly not easy, certainly not, because there are three games still to play and there are many points at stake.

"So it's still an open group."

Lichtsteiner hearty after Juve comeback strike

"I struck the ball perfectly," full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner said after scoring his maiden European goal in his first Juventus game since undergoing heart surgery in October.

Of all the players who addressed the media in the catacombs of Borussia-Park following Mönchengladbach's 1-1 draw with Juventus, none sported a wider grin than Stephan Lichtsteiner, the Bianconeri full-back having score the goal that earned the Italian side a valuable Group D point in his first appearance since undergoing heart surgery at the beginning of October.

I'm feeling really good after the operation and thrilled that everything went so well today," he said. "Today's game was really important and I wanted to help the team. We had problems for the first 20 minutes, but we worked our way into the game and thoroughly deserved a point."

Held to a goalless draw by Gladbach three weeks ago, Juventus struggled initially to cope with their opponents' pace and movement, Fabian Johnson's 18th-minute opener just reward for the Foals. Massimiliano Allegri's men found their feet eventually, and Paul Pogba's exquisite lob over the Gladbach defence invited Lichtsteiner to volley the equaliser past his compatriot Yann Sommer.

"I struck the ball perfectly," said the Swiss international, who had failed to find the net in 52 European appearances prior to his 44th-minute strike. "We wanted to go on and win the game after that, but, under the circumstances, we can be satisfied with a share of the spoils."

The dismissal of Hernanes stifled Juventus's hopes of gaining the win they needed to secure a place in the knockout phase, but a combination of last-ditch defending and spectacular Gianluigi Buffon goalkeeping earned the 2015 runners-up a useful point.

"Most other teams would have lost here today," Pogba told UEFA.com. "Mönchengladbach played with a lot of passion and aggression against our ten men, which made it very difficult for us. We can be very happy with a point."

As for Gladbach, the draw was not enough to keep alive their hopes of qualifying from Group D, but coach André Schubert was eager to express his pride and admiration for his players. "I have to pay my team a huge compliment," he said. "For long periods we played very well against a very strong Juventus side. It bodes well for the future."
