Stephon Castle won the NBA rookie of the year award. It was a week draft class but still Spurs have won last 2 ROTY awards so no excuses.
I feel like Spurs have to get good sooner rather than later, when you draft a Wemby there is always that pressure, need to be good before the end of his rookie scale rather than "waste" all those years, know what I mean? With Castle, now Fox, it's good. I feel like if Spurs jump the lotto (again) and get an Ace Bailey or better it happens sooner rather than later.

In the unlikely event Jazz hold #1 and draft Flagg I would say they probably tank for another season given the depth of top end prospects in 2026 and alignment with their timeline, but you can't convince competitors like Flagg to tank for long, and the same would apply for using his first few years, that team needs to create a competitive team sooner rather than later.

As for this draft, getting a top 2 pick would be elite, but I feel like guys 3-5 or 6 are also really good in their own ways, despite the weaknesses. Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe are very athletic and excel in other areas, with lots of scope to improve. Tre Johnson isn't high for everyone but you can see a scenario where he becomes an elite NBA scorer. Derik Queen is potentially a lot better than where he might draft and maybe being slept on. Jeremiah Fears seems like a coin flip. Some people love Kasparas. Is Maluach just really big and made to look better at Duke? Some of the mid 1sts like Carter Bryant and Jase Richardson are really interesting.

The pressure was on as soon as Spurs won the Wemby lottery, but will intensify a lot more with Castle winning ROTY and Fox. I think if Spurs get a high lottery pick for either their own or Atlanta’s pick they might trade Devin Vassell and picks for a reliable big to help Wemby defensively. But it’ll entirely depend on how high of a pick they get. But the fanbase won’t be content for missing the playoffs again.

thought that rookie from 76ers was gonna win it before he got injured. @Osman probably knows the name

McCains zesty ass would 100% won if he had played over 65 games.

By far the most dominant rookie up til the injury.

Castle, Risacher, Edey or Sarr were respectable bunch after that with Castle and Risacher being standout in a pretty raw rookie class.

I hope we can start building around McCain and Maxey next year but those bums PG and Embiid just started their contracts

We’re literally one of the worst positioned teams in the league because of that

McCain stats on those games he played was 15.4 points 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25:44 average minutes. Castle’s final stats were 14.7 points 3.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 26:44 average minutes. It wasn’t that lopsided. McCain had a better start than everybody else though.
