MUNICH, May 22 (SW) - Bayern Munich and Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto have been unable to finalize a contract extension, paving the way for the 31-year-old to leave the German champions in the summer.
"Unfortunately, we've been unable to bring negotiations with Ze to a successful conclusion," said Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness.
"We wish him all the best for the World Cup in Germany, and then much success for the rest of his sporting career," he added.
The left-footed winger, formerly of Bayer Leverkusen, joined Bayern in 2002, playing 110 Bundesliga matches and scoring 5 goals in his time with the Munich club. He won three league and cup doubles in his four years with Bayern.
Ze Roberto, who has made 79 appearances for Brazil and will add to those at next month’s World Cup finals, has been linked with Atletico Madrid and Greek club Olympiacos.
