Juve have proposed to extend De Ligt’s contract until 2026, on the same salary (€8M a year) but with a lower release clause. The club would like to keep the clause between 70million- €80M mark. The management has made their proposal and is waiting for a response..(Giova Albanese)

No. He is not a top defender.
He is an error prone second tier defender on huge wages.
People are just blindsided by his presumably potential and grinta.
For example. He would not replace Chiello or Barzagli. He is a tier below them and dare I say even bonnuci which shows especially in big matches.
Up until now for us he is a bust. Simple as that.

I lol'ed. Koulibaly is just as good?
The level of delusion about de Ligt's ability right here.
I personally rate Koulibaly more than De Ligt but I said that it would be a smart move without getting into the conversation about how good MDL really is
Is he a top defender - Yes he is
Chiellini - Chiellini is a legend. Of course he isnt on prime Chiellini level.
Barzagli - Prime Barzagli is also a legend
Bonucci - People like to underrate Bonucci too much. He started as an error prone center back but he got better with time. Of course he is past his best now and MDL is definitely better.
Bonucci still is a good CB even if he is past his best.

Why do we need a center back - Since like you said MDL isnt a Chiellini level of player - He is one of the best in his position but defenders arent as good as they were (at least in my opinion).

People talk about Bremer and he sure did look good but Im sure people will also say things about him when he starts his journey and then maybe he makes it and maybe not.
Koulibaly is a guarantee so if we can sell MDL for 100M and get Koulibaly for 40M we would be strengthening our team and add 60M on the process.

P.S Koulibaly isnt really on Chiellini`s level himself but lets not start an argument about this one.

It’s not bad considering his amortization will lower a lot

What purpose would lowering the release clause serve for us?
way I see it, most likely situation is that we want to renew De Ligt to avoid the risk of losing him on a free like Dybala. De Ligt is willing to give us time to improve the team but the lower release clause gives him an out in case the team continues to be total shit

We are being treated like mid table team. Seriously sell this guy if he wants to leave.

Adding on to that (my bad for quoting twice). Theres a tendency in modern football to give so much power to the players its ridiculous. This increased with super agents like Mendes and Raiola. Now this got to extreme level with PSG and Mbappe. No wonder footballers today are almost all brats

Rightfully so. Why would top players want to stay here if we have seasons like the last two years. It would be hard to retain them if results don't improve either way as we're in a compromised financial situation.

Having said that, it would be stupid to sell him this year with Chiellini leaving and Bonucci's fitness issues. Can't keep having 'transition year' every season.

The new tactical project of #Juventus will be based on 4-3-3. The #calciomercato moves on precise tracks: top players on a free transfer (also thanks to the involvement of the #Under23 which allow to reduce the second lines) and investments in young people ready to jump into a big
