EPL's big advantage is that it's in the english language.
Football style is probably the last factor in relation to language, stadiums, sponsorships, and domestic GDP, etc.
Napoli and Roma played great footie for years. Serie A outscored EPL recently. No one gives a shit because the matches are played in WW2 era stadiums and filmed on VHS tapes. I live in a first world country and get Serie A on my cable. But the quality is so bad that I still stream it from my laptop.
But meanwhile, I can change to any other channel and see Harry Kane take a dump in 4K HD.
Its a package for sure I don't disagree with you. Being in English is an advantage for sure and being a 1st world country that invests in infrastructure is as well. I am not pinning the decline of Serie A on Juve at all.
If anything we are Italy's only hope. We are the only club in Italy that has the history and clout to attract people to Serie A again. Until the Milanese clubs restore themselves as big teams in Europe, if anyone will ever switch on Serie A on their TVs it will be for us. Now we can bore them to death with a 0-0 draw when they do turn it on or we can entertain them and provide incentive to watch future matches.
Think of it this way (as an extreme hypothetical), all things equal, if Juve played like City while dominating the way we do in terms of results, do you imagine Juve would be more interesting to audiences or less or just the same?
Thats the point I am making. People tune in to Ligue 1 just to see PSG because they play attractive football and have star players. Thats a plastic club with no history and no fanbase if you go back a few years.
How did they suddenly become more watchable than us? they took the shortcut of buying flair top players and having them play offensively. If their games were a snoozefest like ours then all those investments will be down the drain.
See how much City and Pool are making out of their style of football this season compared to previous years. Fucking City man.
I dunno why people are resisting a very obvious line of reasoning. Beautiful football is more likely to convert fans and gain organic shares/followers than ugly football and therefore more valuable brand. Why wouldnt you want our football to be more entertaining?
