Hi all

Just wondering if anyone's actually been a student exchange? If so, where to and what was it like? What are the student exchange programmes available in your country?

In Malaysia, our most famous student exchange programme is AFS - American Field Service or unofficially "Another Fat Student" :D We also have a Rotarian student exchange programme, but thats only for those in the Interact Club.

I recently applied to go to Italy and yesterday was my interview. There are 160 applicants alone in Kuala Lumpur, and that's not even the whole of Malaysia yet  Last year, Italy allocated 16 places for Malaysia. So it's a tough competition and I hope I get it.

Yesterday was the interview, and somehow my interview was filled with questions bout Islam and I think I'm the only one who got questions on the London bombings. Of course there were Malaysian culture questions here and there too (I cant believe I mixed up the name of Malaysia's minister of education)

So.. anyone else has an experience?

I lived on a campus in Sweden in a town called Växjö. The university is famous for its social studies and economy school. The university is a very nice environment and it is (said) the only university in Sweden that has a US style of campus, where the student housing and the university buildings are concentrated in one area.

A brief description of the university:

It is located in a small town, surrounded by forests. Lakes are abundant in the area as well as rain (it is known to be the second most rainy area in Sweden). The campus is newly built and lots of activities take place (I am sure you are more after activities than education). The town is around 3 hours away from major cities in Sweden and just a couple of hours away from Coppenhagen.

More information on the university you can check their website: www.vxu.se

I lived a year in the USA but I wasnt a exchange student

but I do know lots of people that did the student exchange program basically to learn english. They did senior year of the towns local high school. One of them was in Virginia, one in Indiana, two in Illinois and a lot in Pennsylvania

I also have a friend that got a scholarship for a really good international school in Hong Kong. Shes having an awesome time there but she says she has to study and do things 24.7

I hope you get in :) its an awesome experience, but be sure to meet people that dont speak your same language! that way youll be able to interact with cultures totally apart from yours

edit: I also know people that went to England (Cambridge) and France (Paris and Provence). All of them stayed either in dorms or in their own apartments, so they had a lot more freedom than the people that went to the US and stayed with host families

I was a finalist of a gov-t sponsored exchange program in 1994-1995. Went to and graduated from h/s in northern Louisiana.

It was one hell of an experience.
