Camel: "Barcelona-Madrid derby better than Milan-Inter":lol:, wasn't he the first one to say after signing for Inter and before playing his first derby saying there's nothing better than Inter-Milan derby?

Goal.com/Al Jazeera for the 1st statement, the 2nd one must be somewhere here in the forums. I remember laughing at his comments that time too.

Totally worthless, that 5 league goals is above 28 league goals.

What about frigging mediocre Kaka being over Ibra who been twice the player. Or Rooney> Drogba, Torres and Villa? Game set and...? I'll let you finish :p
    It's for the year 2009.
So, no, it's not 5 league goals for Drogba. It's all the goals he scored in 2009 and he scored more than 20 goals in 2009. Villa scored even more, I think, but Villa didn't do anything in Europe at all (both with his club and his NT). He didn't play in CL knock-outs at the start of 2009, he didn't lead his team even to the CL place so he's not playin CL even in the second part of 2009 and his NT was eliminated by the USA in the Confederations Cup.
You can argue Villa's place on the list, but it's hard to argue that he deserved to be above Drogba in 2009.

As for Kaka being over Zlatan, I disagree too. Zlatan was better than Kaka both when they were in Inter/Milan or Barca/Real. But winning the Confederations Cup and being the MVP of the tournament has to mean something when these lists are made so the MVP of the only international competition in 2009 simply had to be high on the list.
And being a lovable catholic boy brought him votes from those South American journalists.

    Game, Set, Match!

P.S: Don't ever doubt me and Red.
    Ever!
Since you are taking those ratings as gospel, then you have to admit that Rooney is better than Drogba. Another implication of you taking this as a measure is, that you have to also admit that Casillas is better than Buffon. Don't forget that Essien isn't one of the best 30 players.

I find these ratings hugely flawed.

    1) Kaka does not deserve to be so high up the ranks, despite scoring 15 goals for Milan last season, which is of course an impressive feat, still he wasn't consistent with his performances and he definitely wasn't better than Zlatan, who was heads and shoulders above any other player in the Serie A last season. 5 games in the Confed Cup should not be more important than the 40+ games played in 2009 in club level.

    2) Xavi should be above C.Ronaldo for sure. Ronaldo wasn't at his best last season, despite definitely deserving to be in the top 5, he was not as influential as Xavi was.

    3) I can understand Villa being behind Drogba in the rankings, for the reasons you've already mentioned. But if i was on the judge panel in these awards, i'd put more emphasis on individual performances rather than team accomplishments. Also, he is definitely better than Dzeko and had a better year.

    4) Its a joke that Essien isn't in the top 30.

Oh its never over, it just gets quiet for a while :D

Btw, i think that its phenomenal that Messi got 473 points out of a possible 480. A real reflection of how much of a phenomenon he really is.

Nah, more like how Messi was groomed for this prize already for 2 years. He just had to wait his turn. Kaka, Ronaldo, then him. In the first year Kaka competed against Ronaldo and Messi. In the second Ronaldo competed against Messi (Kaka already had his). And this year Messi had no competition left, so they just gave it to him like they had intended to do all along.

And that's only reinforced by the fact that Ronaldo was #2 this year, so that means from the time he himself won the prize noone at all has come along to compete with Messi.

It may seem so when you put it this way... but you gotta admit the boy was as good as, Ronaldo and/or Kaka in their years. He did achieve more.

7th, he should have been 6, over frigging Kaka, but the rest of the top 5 is spot on and oughta be above him (all of them brilliant seasons).

Most ridicolous of all is so many being above Villa (28 league goals last season), but also that Rooney (no bussiness in top ten) is 18 frigging spots over him.
Kaká seems to get in purely because he was bought for a huge amount of money, and they like the name to represent things. Just like the Fifa award with Ballack in the list.

And Villa will always be underrated until he leaves Valencia, unfortunately. Champions League clubs get you points.

The points between first and second is the biggest ever, by the way. The best player won it, at least.

Zlatan won't finish higher than 7th next year.
Well, if Barcelona wins the CL and he plays a major role in that win, he might finish in top 5 or even top 3, but 2010 is a World Cup year and as always, a player who does great at the World Cup is winning the award, while 2-3 more players who did great at the world cup will also be among the top 5.
Zlatan won't even play at the world cup so he stands absolutely no chance to win the 2010 ballon d'or and, unless he plays great and wins the CL, he won't make it even in top 3/top 5.

It's not about who's a better player. It's about who had a more successful year. Who had a better year both individually (his performances) and team-wise (performances and the success of his team)

Of course, there will always be one or two surprising nominees and surprising finishing positions.

I laughed because this list came up so conveniently right after our discussion where you claimed that Torres had a much better year than Drogba :D

Messi missed half the year when he got second to Ronaldo, a lot of people thought Messi might have won it that year had he been fit throughout the year.

Messi won it because he is miles ahead of the others in terms of individual performances, not because of anything else. You simply have to be blind or biased not to recognize that he was easily the worlds best last year.

    Messi>>>>>>>>>>>>rest
    Definitely so.

But Rooney did not have a better year than Torres, far from it actually.
