Typical English shitty media and fans in some quarters, still bitter about that hand of God and mocking his death to a certain degree, one newspaper mentioning if VAR had existed blah blah. I was never fortunate enough to remember him as a player so I can't say too much in that sense but it takes a great player to achieve what he did and with what he had around him. Shame about his troubled life but I like to think he lived it the way he wanted.
Which media? I've read the tabloids today and none are mocking or celebrating, there are literally front pages and several sports pages on him. It is still one of the most controversial moments ever in a World Cup so of course it will be a focus.
Some English people hate Maradona. Why shouldn't they? It's like asking Italians to love Byron Moreno. Personally I think he's a legendary player and fascinating character, but I don't like the guy. And besides, he'll always be associated with Napoli. Guess which club they are singing anti songs about during these Maradona tributes?

The Daily Star is taking some pretty cheap shots. The VAR thing, okay, we'll let that slide. But to call him the second greatest footballer is just plain stupid. Maybe someone thinks Pele or Messi or anyone else was better. I don't care. We all know full well that Maradona is in contention to be called the best ever. You don't go around saying he's not when the guy has died yesterday. Very childish.

Sorry but byron moreno was a cheating cunt and nothing more, he had no skill or talent which is appreciated. Maradona like every other footballer in existence have 'cheated' at some point, take Thierry Henry vs Ireland for example but at least they had talent and skill which should never mask over their flaws.

The English aren't concerned, even Gary Lineker is firing shots but England would've won every tournament they entered had it not been some villain be it Maradona, Ronaldo or their very own Beckham.
People will argue that today's players are peak fitness but bear in mind that back when Maradona was doing his business today's red card tackles were not even a yellow yet he was magnificent. You wouldn't be able to take the ball off him had he played today.
Also, those from Asia will know that when Maradona was on people would come from all the neighbouring villages to the house of the one guy that has the black and white 14 inch TV and literally climb on top of each other to see him play.
