they should be brought into the game for contentious decisions - at the request of the on-field ref, but not replace them.

NO.
it would ruin the beauty of the game.
Incorrect offside decisions are beautiful? :D

Rugby has done this successfully, though football is a faster game, so I don't know if it would be quite as successful for it. In principle, I like the idea of technology helping ensure that crap refs don't ruin games. Anyone recall the rubbish after Italy went out in WC2002? Imagine that just didn't arise.

Look, we've all had days on which we screamed blue murder about some decisions going against our team. On such days, we'd gladly trot out a video replay to show that this goal shouldn't have been given, or that that player was offside, or that some ball crossed the line.

How about when the shoe's on the other foot? What about times we've heaved sighs of relief about the ref missing some incident during the game? Haven't we all at some time or another been tongue in cheek about some controversial incidents involving our teams? Haven't we all turned blind eyes to certain incidents which worked in our favour?

Yes, there are some crap refs out there who make watching football a painful experience, but isn't that why we all love this game? I mean, where would we be without our talking points? If football suddenly became predictable, and run by some video ref, where would the fun lie? Therein lies the beauty of this game. Everyone on this forum can name some victory which was all the more sweeter due to some "crap" ref. We've all thumped our chests after some games and said that in spite of playing 12 against 11, we still won.

I wouldn't trade that feeling for anything.

I vote an emphatic NO!

A big YES.
Never got why people are afraid of improvement.
Look at the NHL this season. Made so unbelievable many changes, all for the better. Now we se more goals, a cleaner game and more skills technically.

Cameras to be sure if it is a goal or not are a given.
Then if there is the right technology I would welcome a solution were the offside was judged appropriate.
