Shkodran Mustafi (born 17 April 1992) is a German professional footballer of Albanian descent who plays as a defender for Italian club Sampdoria.

Club career

Early career

Mustafi was born in Bad Hersfeld, Germany, to an Albanian family, originally from Gostivar. He started his career in the youth system of 1. FV Bebra and after of SV Rotenburg. Between 2006 and 2009 Mustafi played for Hamburger SV before joining Everton.

Everton

Mustafi made his competitive debut versus BATE Borisov in December 2009 in the UEFA Europa League coming on as a substitute for Tony Hibbert. He made no further first team appearances and in January 2012 moved to U.C. Sampdoria, joining the Serie A club on a free transfer.

Sampdoria

Mustafi made his competitive debut on 26 May 2012, in a 3-1 loss to Varese in Serie B.[6] On 26 October 2013, he scored his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Atalanta in Serie A.

International

Mustafi has played for Germany's under-17 team, winning the 2009 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship with them. However, he expressed to the media his desire to play for Albania, the country his family is from. On 22 January 2014, Albanian media reported that Mustafi may be called up for Albania's next friendly, this was also confirmed by coach Gianni de Biasi.

However, on 28 February 2014, Joachim Löw called up Mustafi to the German national squad for a friendly match against Chile. On 13 May, he made his international debut in a friendly match against Poland.

Mustafi was selected in Germany's 30-man provisional squad before the 2014 FIFA World Cup by Löw. After initially not making Germany's World Cup squad, he was subsequently nominated as the replacement for the injured Marco Reus.

On 16 June 2014, Mustafi appeared as a substitute in Germany's opening World Cup game against Portugal, coming on in the 73rd minute to win his second cap. In the team's second match, he again came on as a substitute, replacing Jérôme Boateng at half time against Ghana.[

some love him, some say he's shit.

I saw him on the right and looks adapted to that role. Better at CB. A Campagnaro of some sort.

Too bad this kid can't play on the left hand side, well at least I've never seen or heard of him playing there. He would have been really useful.

But I hear good things about Mustafi and being called up to this heavily talented Germany team is no easy feat. Would be a good signing IMO.

If this guy comes as CB we definitely should sell Bonucci or Ogbonna. Too many Cbs and it's pointless to use him on the right. We have Licht, Caceres, Isla and even padoin there.

    So many players to offload.
