Melita launches new sports channels format

Melita Cable plc announced on Friday the launch of a new digital sports channels format to come into effect on August 1st 2007. The new digital sports channel will include three separate packages.

    Package 1: Melita Sports – Channel 700

Melita Sports is a single sports channel including a variety of different sporting events including Live and Exclusive matches from the Barclays Premier League, Italian Serie A, UEFA Champions League and Spanish Primera Liga amongst others. The flagship channel will also include a selection of magazine shows covering Tennis, Wrestling, Cricket, and football highlight and preview programmes. The schedule will transmit predetermined live football.

Melita Sports is available as an optional single channel service to all digital customers at Lm5.15/€12 per month.

    Package 2: Melita SportsXtra – Channels 700 – 707

Melita SportsXtra is an additional seven (7) channel package exclusive to Melita Sports customers. SportsXtra will deliver Super Saturday and Super Sunday Live football throughout the season as well as First Choice scheduling of all simultaneous live events. The service will also include ATP Masters Series, 2007 Rugby World Cup, Formula One and WWE Wrestling Specials.

Melita SportsXtra is a must-have-service for the die-hard enthusiast available to digital customers at – Lm8.16/€19 per month. Customers subscribed to SportsXtra will also receive the Football Club Channels as a bonus package.

    Package 3: Football Club Channels – Channels 800 – 805

The Football Club Channels namely MUTV, Chelsea TV, Juventus Channel, Inter Channel, Roma Channel and Milan Channel, will be available to all digital subscribers as an optional pay service. All Melita Digital subscribers can enjoy the football channels 24 hours a day without the need to being subscribed to either Melita Sports or Melita SportsXtra. The cost of the Football Club Channels as a separate package is – Lm3.01/€7 per month.

All Melita Sports customers will automatically convert to Melita SportsXtra i.e. channels 700 to 707 from August 1st 2007 at the cost of Lm8.16/€19 per month. This will also include the Football Club Channels on channels 800 – 805 at no additional charge. Customers who subscribe to the analogue Sports Channel, namely Channel 47 and 48 will continue to receive standard programming including select fixtures from the newly acquired Serie A and will be charged Lm8.16/€19 per month .

Another first for Melita - Melita Sports HD

Melita will be testing its High-Definition (HD) service from August 2007 with an array of football games. High Definition TV (HDTV) offers images that are up to four times the number of pixels as conventional television, allowing near-cinematic picture quality, and incorporates richer stereo sound. It's a step change in television technology which provides far clearer and more detailed pictures than normal "standard definition" digital TV service. Melita will be transmitting two games of the Barclays Premier League and is working towards providing HD transmissions for Italian Serie A, UEFA Champions League and Spanish Primera Liga games.

More details on Melita’s HD trial will be made available in the coming weeks. Should you wish to participate in the trial go to www.melitasports.com

Rebel, ART have the rights for Serie A next year over here in the Middle East, right? According to my understanding:

    La Liga: Jazeerah
    Serie A: ART
    EPL: Showtime

    Right?

Oh and do you have any idea how one could get Juve channel in the Middle East?

Well, nothing official I think until now regarding Serie A, but I heard that it will be divided between ART and other channels. ART got the rights for a number of teams, but not all of them. EPL will be definetely with Showtime.

And I'm sorry. I don't know if any tv boquet will add Juve channel to its group this season.

I'll try to look more now, and if I find anything, I'll let you know.

Ya I know, but I have the rest, more or less. Will these channel's be in English? If they are in Italian it's def not worth it.

Oh and 1000 pounds because of the receiver, so renewing subscription would be cheaper, ya?
